might have been less costly to replace the cooler assuming the processors have thermal throttle protection like most have had over the last 20 years or so
the AMD cooler does not work well with the OEM thermal material, so I use MX-4 which does improve the performance.
The intel cooler however is bad as there is no copper to improve the the thermal conductivity to the fins
