Compatibility Issues with OpenNIC and Vivado 2024.2 – Request for Patch or Solution
I am trying to set up the OpenNIC and OpenNIC Shell projects for the Alveo U45N board using Vivado 2024.2. However, I am encountering errors during the initialization and customization of key IPs, specifically cmac_usplus_0 and clk_wiz. These issues appear to stem from compatibility problems with the latest version of Vivado, as these projects were initially developed and tested for Vivado 2022.x.
Technical Details:
Target Platform: Alveo U45N.
Vivado Version: 2024.2.
Projects in Use:
- OpenNIC (https://github.com/Xilinx/open-nic.git).
- OpenNIC Shell (https://github.com/Xilinx/open-nic-shell.git).
Main Error: Running the provided build.tcl script fails during the instantiation of the IP cmac_usplus_0 with the following errors:
ERROR: [IP_Flow 19-3188] Error occurred while initializing 'cmac_usplus_0_clk_wiz'. ERROR: [IP_Flow 19-3428] Failed to create Customization object cmac_usplus_0_clk_wiz. CRITICAL WARNING: [IP_Flow 19-5622] Failed to create IP instance 'cmac_usplus_0_clk_wiz'. Failed to load customization data. ERROR: [Common 17-70] Application Exception: Failed to create subcore IP.These errors indicate that the speed file required for MMCM jitter and phase timing calculations is missing or unsupported in this Vivado version.
Questions:
- Is there an official patch or workaround to make the OpenNIC designs compatible with Vivado 2024.2, avoiding the need to downgrade to 2022.x?
- Are there updated versions of the OpenNIC and OpenNIC Shell reference designs that are fully supported in Vivado 2024.2?
- If no direct solution exists, is there a guide for manually adapting these reference designs to function with newer Vivado versions?
Additional Context:
- I have ensured all required licenses are installed, including the no-charge CMAC license.
- Downgrading Vivado is not ideal due to dependencies on 2024.2 for other projects.
- Attached are screenshots and logs showing the detailed error messages during the IP generation process.
Thank you.
