It makes calls to basically every major ad service out there so you can be tracked everywhere you go. Not to mention it also sends traffic to Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Google...Google only makes 32 and Firefox 26. As if anyone needed any more reason not to use Edge.

Is this similar in the existing version of Edge, or does the chromium version mark and uptick in these kinds of communications?

The article doesn't say but presumably it's more else we would've seen this article before.
