Chipset drivers comparison zen 2 windows 10

Hello, i have a ryzen 3 3300X system with a b450 motherboard.  I want to discuss which driver version do you guys with similar systems stick to.

I am using windows 10, so i wanted to ask, is there any benefit of updating chipset drivers past version 3.08.17.735 ? After this version there were only improvements for windows 11 and newer ryzen platforms like the 5000 series or am5. According to me, newer versions have the possibility of ruining intended functioning because of unrelated changes.

What do you guys think ? Anybody has idea on what the newer driver versions include for windows 10 ? Can somebody on behalf of AMD guide users on best practices for updating drivers for my system ?

@Matt_AMD  your thoughts ? Please give insight about whether newer chipset drivers are bad for older ryzen win 10 users.

The chipset updates are usually just fixes for errors. They are not going to make your system faster.

Nobody is going to care about your hardware after reasonable period.

Chipset and Graphics Card updates to old hardware is just fixing eventual errors. Performance benefits are so rare that you wont be able to tell difference.

Here's where you can find Previous Driver versions for the B450 Chipset.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/previous-drivers.html/chipsets/am4/b450.html

The Release Notes detail what changes have been made over previous versions. A quick check of various releases between 3.08 and 6.10 indicates many bug fixes were implemented. To your point, those may address hardware or software issues that do not affect you. However, the latest version 6.10 is the recommended.

Ryzen R7 5700X | B550 Gaming X | 2x16GB G.Skill 3600 | Radeon RX 7900XT
Ryzen R7 5700G | B550 Gaming X | 2x8GB G.Skill 4000 | Radeon Vega 8 IGP
Ryzen R5 5600 | B550 Gaming Edge | 4x8GB G.Skill 3600 | Radeon RX 6800XT

@Matt_AMD   @Ray_AMD sir, any comments you want to give on latest chipset drivers, like do they include adjustments for the security AGESA 120Ca for zen2 b450 and b550 ? Or are these newer versions expected to run better with latest security BIOS ?  Windows 10 update automatically installs driver version 2.04 which is even older (dated 6-3-2020), so the question arises why newer drivers are recommended

Sir, are you in touch with the technical team of AMD to answer such questions ?

This is an open ended discussion based on personal experiences of people, unless AMD clarifies what exactly do newer chipset drivers include.

@mengelag , @FunkZ is it really something AMD can't disclose ? I mean the information related to changes made in newer chipset drivers after 3.08.17.735 and how they affect win 10 users

How can i directly ask AMD about this, is this the right place ? I am really interested in what the changes mean for end user.

For Zen 2 chipset drivers on Windows 10, prioritize stability and performance. Always use the latest drivers from AMD's official site for optimal results.

What about ryzen power plans for zen 2 (ryzen 3000) and CPPC2 ? After chipset 3.08.17.735 those got tweaked for win 11 which means they may fail to work properly for windows 10 ?

Somebody from AMD needs to clarify the chipset driver version changes and what's best for my win 10 system.

This post is kinda dumb because chipset drivers don't really do much.

However i think it is advisable to update to atleast version 5.02.19.2221 for the changes and bug fixes to the PCIe device driver but again i don't know if it affects gaming or not (the PCI driver).

I tested newer chipset drivers like 5.08.02.027 and newer and they have various bugs with my Ryzen 3 3300X system with a b450 motherboard on windows 10. The issues are with fluctuating GPU usages (RTX 3050 6GB) and the ammo indicator in the bottom right corner getting stuck even when you change weapons in Borderlands 3. I request AMD to look into the issue with newer drivers used on older systems.

Using driver 3.08.17.735 lead to reduced overall stutter and weapon ammo indicator now does no longer get stuck for different weapons. I am playing on Medium preset with TAA and 1080p on DX 12.

So for anybody having similar systems, it is best to stick to older AMD chipset drivers which Windows installs by default.
