Can R2X4 Registered w/parity ECC Ram be used with the ASRock X570D4U-2L2T and Ryzen 3700X?

Hi there,

I'm currently building a FreeNAS box based around the ASRock X570D4U-2L2T mobo and the Ryzen 3700X.

I'm looking to populate the memory with 2 x 32GB ECC DIMMS but I'm unsure about the difference between "R2X4 Registered w/parity" and "R2X8 Unbuffered" ECC RAM.

Here's the ram I was looking at but I don't know if this will work (as proper ECC RAM) with the X570D4U-2L2T and 3700X?

https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/memory/ecc-&-registered/79838-ksm26rd4-32mei

This is the motherboard memory page:

https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=X570D4U-2L2T#Memory

All the 32Gb ECC "Memory QVL" listed here are R2X8 Unbuffered modules, so that indicates I should steer clear of the R2X4 Regsitered? But I just wanted to confirm for sure.

Does anyone know if I can use the R2X4 Registered w/Parity ram safely?

Thanks in advance!

After a bit more reading here I can see that R2X4 Registered (RDIMMS) is not compatible with AMD4 only unbuffered UDIMMS.

To be on the safe side I would purchase RAM Memory from ASRock QVL List otherwise if you open a ASRock Support ticket they will say that you are using RAM that is not compatible with the motherboard unless the RAM Manufacturer indicates that it is compatible.

Hi elstaci,

Yeah I went for 2 sticks of Kinsgston KSM32ED8/32ME as per the QVL.

It's just harder to find locally and more expensive than the R2x4 Registered ECC ram, which is what prompted me to ask the question.

Thanks!
