3950X Upgrade - What to keep on current machine

I built this computer about three years ago but I need a better processor. It's built for 3d modeling/rendering, specifically Fusion 360 which relies on cores. Zero gaming, hence the low end graphics card. I want to upgrade to the 3950X. What is the bare minimum I can keep on my current machine to just get up and running. Current motherboard is AM4 socket but I'm doubtful it will work. Not sure about cooler and RAM. Thanks for the help. comp.jpg

hey

your X370 should be fine - just update the bios (maybe you need to flash 1-3 more bios before latest)

actually you lack the SPEED of your RAM...

do you have 3200CL14? just OC it to 3600CL16...

do you have 2133? buy DDR4-3600CL16

ps if you want to game maybe think about a RX 6800 (XT)

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS
Laptop: R5 2500U @30W + RX 560X (1400MHz/1500MHz) + 16G DDR4-2400CL16 + 120Hz 3ms FS

Thanks for the reply. Not exactly sure what you're asking but this is the RAM specs. CMU16GX4M2C3200C16. You're saying overclock the RAM? I've tried messing with that a few times but never could figure it out.

Will this cooler be ok with the new processor? The specs look like it will but real world might be different.

you havent said what cooler it is - but a 240er AiO should be ok...

you have DDR4-3200CL16 - this is okish - you could try to OC it to 3600CL18
if that doesnt work 3200CL16 wouldnt be bad - but you could consider buying 3600CL16 ram...

I appreciate the help, benman. The cooler is a Deepcool captain240. If I were to change motherboard and ram what would you recommend, mid level budget? Machine used strictly for 3d modeling/rendering. Thank you

you dont need to upgrade MoBo - only if you really want all benefits from a Ryzen 5000 CPU... - but X370 is totally fine for a Ryzen 3000 CPU ;)

RAM: F4-3600C16Q-32GTZKK // 32GB Quadkit with 3600MHz CL16 = very good performance with Ryzen 3000 CPUs (maybe raise dram voltage to 1.4V or 1.45V to be 100% stable)

Cooler - should be okish; BUT i would prefer a "Alphacool Eisbaer 360" (120$) or if you want it cheap but good the LC-Power LC-CC-360-LiCo (70$) - both made in Germany ;)
