2560 isnt 2k 1920x1080 is

Wish people would just stop calling 2.5k 2k its irritating. Drives me crazy watching stupidity rule just so people with 4k can feel better about their purchase.

I find using 1080p or 1440p etc to be adequate when describing game performance for various titles

There's no such thing as "2.5k", it's WQHD, 2560x1440, or, if you're a lazy SOB who literally, not figuratively, needs to be smacked upside the head with a crowbar, 1440p.

I have not seen .2.5K in media, but 1080p, 1440p and 2160p are pervasive

i agree there isn't.

but 5k does exists and that's exactly 4 WQHD displays.

half of 5 is 2.5

I did see some 5K but that was a while ago for a higher res panel for use with 4K editing for professional use

that has been superseded by the new 8K panels that are now used more with film editors

Many products try to capture as much as possible to market the item. This is driven by marketing people.

Regardless that is called Full HD not 2K. No different than one person figuring a gigabyte as 1024 and another 1000. No different that the 20v max batteries being actually still 18 volt batteries. The important thing is to know what to ask for regardless of why they call it that or you won't go home with the correct thing. If you quest is to figure out why people do what they do? You will drive yourself crazy. Me I just  call it 1080p or 1440p etc... that isn't wrong.

I use Youtube and I post 1920x1080 which is standard ATSC HDTV high bandwidth progressive scan at 60fps

I use H.264 which is the BD standard and this seems to be very playable today

Could define it as megapixel, then you run into the question of where cutoffs and rounding come in. What constitutes a "2MP" image, for example, 1920x1080, 2048x1080, or 1920x1200?

1920x1080 = 2,073,600

2048x1080 = 2,211,840

1920x1200 = 2,304,000

2560x1440 = 3,686,400

3840x2160 = 6,134,400

4096x2160 = 8,847,360

So yea, pokester has the right idea, don't worry over it, you'll just drive yourself crazy, just shake your head and move on.

many LCD panels today use multiples of HDTV at 1280x720 and 1920x1080.

Some panels are more anamorphic with 5120×1440 resolution etc
