Portland State University Gaming and Grub Showdown event
After months of planning and string pulling I finally was able to host my first esports event! We had a Smash bro’s tournament and casual play event where we had pizza and snacks as well as give away prizes. We anticipated 15-20 people and was very surprised to have a turnout of 62 attendees! Not only was the event a massive success, it was the largest student led event at the college in 5 years.
I do want to thank the red team for donating the peripherals that we gave away! AMD has done so much for this club and I can’t express my gratitude enough! Everyone who wanted something got something to take home and it was an amazing feeling to be able to run such a successful event. Now that we can prove our turnout, we are already getting offers such as Paramount who is offering us a preview showing of the new DnD movie! We are also going to begin smaller events every other month!
This club was re-started when I was asked to take the club over in September with 4 people, two were non-students. Today, the PC Gaming Club has grown to over 250 members, 3 esports teams, and 2 discord channels with a reach of over 500 students combined. The work the leadership team has put in to the club is astounding and I am very proud of everyone’s hard work and I can’t wait to see the growth when I graduate in June.
