I've been switching between Power Saver scheme and AMD Ryzen Balanced to switch between office work and gaming on my Windows 10 PC. However as of late I felt that I need some kind of an intermediate power scheme between those two. Currently when using power saver scheme my Ryzen 2700X is only running at 2.2 GHz, and 62 watt Idle. Since only 5 cores (10 threads running), the CPU only makes 39 degrees C max on a room with 29 degree C ambient temp.
However when gaming I do noticed that some of my games, noticeably World Of Tanks can actually run on Power Saver scheme. Sure it bottlenecks the GPU, but hey, 60 watt gaming! Anyway, now I wanted to increase the CPU performance a little bit via power management, but I just couldn't find that middle ground. From link state management, min/max power state, every option I tinker, the processor will just rake up heat and kicks the fan to high gear.
Any input on how to change the power profile to fit my usage scenario?
use Ryzen Balanced and OC with Ryzen Master
3GHz 1.08V (or lower - test YOUR CPU) - will be nice for your rig
Much appreciate the suggestion, but can it be done through windows power management? I tried keeping my system out of unnecessary start up apps.
...
simply oc in your bios?
MSI motherboard doesn't allow for offset Vcore, so whatever Vcore I set it will be stuck. I tried overclocking my system to 4.1 GHz stable at 1.35V. On idle, my system consumed 66 Watts, up from 60 Watts stock. Since my PC is left idle for a lot (home media server), any power saving method is preferable.
Cool'n'Quiet enabled? that should reduce your vcore even if you set it manually and reduce therefore powerconsumption
