I recently got a vega56 and an hdr monitor, but when I record the desktop or gameplay or videos. i cant seen to record hdr with re:live. the recorded videos end up looking with washed out colors.
is there something i need to download , or do to be able to record hdr content .

i hope im clear lol

thanks

Hello,

Not sure Relive is working as intended.
Did you checked which screen options are available in the Radeon setting, into the display tab?
Please report your issue also here: AMD Issue Reporting Form
Thanks

yes i did , no matter which one i selected it , i get the same result.
but the windows dvr option works fine

Hello,

Gotcha, you can try to disable the windows DVR to check if it conflict with Relive.
You can use tool called DDU and clean your actual AMD gpu drivers, i suppose you are running the latest 18.9.1, then revert drivers version to older ones.
If the issue disappear with older drivers versions, it mean the new ones have an issue with Relive and HDR.
If even older drivers exhibit the same issue at this point dunno, maybe try also another video output, cable.

mmm
no windows dvr was disable until I decided to try it .
no i been having that problem since i got the monitor , i already did a clean install too

Ni No Kuni II - Game play - YouTube
in that video shows how the colors look .

Hello,

Unfortunately aside the usual test and check, i'm not really into HDR monitors, so i couldn't help you to pinpoint the issue precisely.
It's true tho the colours seems washed out or more like pastels.
Did you tried other games, same behaviour?

yes is on every game.
but re:live works fine when HDR is disable , which is annoying

i try different settings , like enchance sync off , ftcr off , chill off , same result

Hello,

Yep, if the beahvior is the same with other games and other basic settings, i would suppose something is not working properly.
Tho i'm not sure where the issue is since i have only poor knowledge on the matter, if it's a Relive and a drivers issue or a configuration setting issue somewhere.
I have to admit, often when i encounter issues with Relive, i never really know if it's the driver or my rig.
AMD report bug and issues as anybody else, but often these get reported if affect a huge user base.

The new 18.9.2 are out, you can DDU and clean install the new drives to check if it changed something.
Wish you good luck with your issue.

I did DDU and install the newest driver.

The same issue,  I wonder if the issue is the monitor

GitHub - GPUOpen-LibrariesAndSDKs/AMF: The Advanced Media Framework (AMF) SDK provides developers wi...
ask there if its an AMF Problem, a Driver Problem or not intended

i think HDR is not yet intended - because it would add latency to encoder
x264 hdr needs 10bit - white normal x264 needs only 8bit

but ask there - he is the dev for AMD AMF

Hello,

I really dunno, Relive should support HDR recording if i remember well.

mh, looks like "streaming" is only possible with x264 in 8bit while local recording with x265 works with 10bit

so yes - it should be able to record in 10bit - but i doubt streaming
but simplest way to find out is asking the AMD Driver dev (link to github) - he WILL know it

thanks for the link
ill see if i can figure where to leave the question . lol .

the little i know is that x263 is a MKV file . re:live uses AVC which is H.264 . where can i changed that. i dont see that option .

the monitor i have , its 10bit , even i have that setting selected on raddeon settings .

Hello,

Unfortunately even if there is an issue it will not be acknowledged until it have a possible fix, it's how it works.
And neither you will find someone willing to help here, i would as i do on many other topic.
But have really no knowledge recording HDR/Relive to help you pinpoint the issue and maybe try to fix it yourself.
Please take the time to report your issue to the AMD Report Form page.

???

actually making a screenshot in HDR should work!
also capturing - but not with ReLive or AMF

AMF only supports 8bit h264 = SDR

but other tools that took "what comes form the GPU" should be able to take a HDR screenshot
- yet i have to see if OBS supports HDR (x264 10bit) when recording - or you could simply go to the OBS forum yourself

microsoft dvr can record all gameplay in SDR with hdr on...

why relive not work?

we have a performance problem with obs or microsoft dvr...we buy a radeon with relive for record game...damn it AMD

btw - ms dvr uses your CPU with Software to encode - dont ever compare that to a HW Encoder

AMD AMF/VCE/ReLive simply CANT RECORD IN HDR!

its because they use 8Bit x264 // while HDR needs 10bit x264
AND its a HW Encoder - therefore it cant encode 10bit x264 because the hw was not designed for it.

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS

ok if HDR not work...why relive cant record a gameplay in SDR ?

the point is this ... i cant play in HDR if i want share my gameplay. Is not a little problem. Microsoft DVR can record video in SDR with HDR ON. i can share my gameplay and i dont ask more for now..

My polaris can decode video in HDR..and can encode in SDR...i dont see any problem.

Hello,

Even if you ask, you will get nothing in return, not even a polite answer about what, why, how from competent people.

Relive is another AMD meme like, "good ideas, bad execution", as usual like some other AMD software tools!

Having an 8bit Hardware encoder included into the gpu die does not mean that one can't encode in higher quality format!

wrong - that is EXCATLY what it means
if i built HARDWARE for a specific task its hard if i change that task

btw - the quality has nothing to do with 8-bit or 10-bit // its the hardcoded color-range that is the problem here // also quality of AMF isnt that bad - its perfect for high-bitrate local recordings and is ok for 5000kbps 720p60 streaming

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS

Hello,

If you said so!
Because to me it's exactly what higher quality mean, being able to fit more informations about the colour range, brightness that recreate a better image.
I could be totally wrong, but i don't see why a 8bit hardware encoder could not encode 16bit if wanted to, i would required the double of the cycle for the ASIC to complete the same task, but still possible.

I rarely saw the quantity of bit of an ASIC being an obstacle to things, to a reasonable extent.

I'm more than ok with the actual quality of Relive for recoding and streaming, i would just wish one would take care of the tool a bit more!

dude,

1st
colorrange has VERY LITTLE to do with quality of a videostream - but A LOT on visual apperance; MUCH more important are what encoder, what bitrate, what motion estimation etc - THAT is what makes a picture/video good;

2nd
you still dont understand that HARDWARE-ENCODER and SOFTWARE-ENCODER are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!

3rd
HWenc are usually limited, while SWenc can Step-Dance your Video to your drive...

Hello,

I already checked these kinks, it tell you only what the state of the tool is not it's actual capability, then the thread magically stop until few month ago.
Second, even if i do not understand video encoders soft or hard, still you did not provide anything to explain in a decent fashion.

So to me, i can believe you and say you are right but don't know why!
Tbh i don't see why one can't add something on top of the software dedicated to the hardware encoder to be able to support HDR10.

try OBS with AMF Encoder
there you should be able to play in HDR and stream in SDR

and the reason why GCN cant encode in HDR is because that their HARDWARE-ENCODER isnt built that way
Software can do all stuff you want to - HWenc is limited
but you save alot of CPU-performance

ps i have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X @4.2GHz and a RX 580 4G (heavy OC) - so i stick to OBS with good custom settings what will only take max 16% of CPU-load (running on 2 cores of 6) // before with my FX-9590 is used AMF instead of x264 software
so maybe you dont need to use ReLive

and as i said OBS with AMF Encoder (AMD AMF/VCE) has more stuff you can do than ReLive - is also way better for streaming

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS

i dont know maybe my obs conf is bad

usually i can help with those errors

dont you get it

CPU x264 Software is a PROGRAMM that runs code through the CPU to encode the video
AMD AMF is run on a hardware chip with limited instructions - that was specifically designed for that purpose - it only can do what it was made for

there is a reason why x264 takes ~15-25% CPU and AMF takes <1%

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS

well - some stuff can be done by CPU (like color conversion etc) - but what you want would result in a sync problem
and as h264 encoding is done by GPU i highly doubt that HDR content would be possible with help of cpu

yet, if you own a 12T or more CPU i think you should be able to use x264 10bit for your encoding - without big impact on games.
yet its not the same as using AMF.

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS

So  I just ran into this thread trying to find a solution to my HDR gaming recording problems. ^^ Seems like this Problem from 2018 is still a topic today. WOW
I just have the same issues. washed out, faded grey capture videos.
Does anyone have a solution to this? maybe encoding the video afterwards?
Or does anyone got the OBS settings the right, working way?

Cheers from Berlin, stay healthy!

Best bet is probably get a capture card like an Elgato Game Capture 4K60 Pro MK.2.

Now June 2024 and to my shock AMD still doesn't support HDR recording via adrenalin.. Nvidia has HDR recording but AMD doesn't. Mini LED displays have been out for a while now, they aren't special or that expensive. **bleep** is going on.

Has AMD said anything about this?

I was going to buy a 7900 XTX but it seems like I unfortunately have to shell out more for a 4090 since this is still an issue sadly. I shouldn't have to use a third party software/hardware to do something like this.
