Diablo 4 - Anyone Playing?

d4_lil.png

So Diablo 4 had its wide release on Monday, and I've been clicking-to-move/clicking-to-attack like crazy these last 2 days. I think I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrome... lol.

I was a big D3 fan and played a bunch of it leading up to the worldwide D4 launch. Needless to say, I was pumped to boot it up. I'm playing a Sorcerer and am level 29 at the moment (although I've already seen some friends at level 70+), and have even seen our friends @AFKG-Curtis and @Key-J online grinding.

I've really enjoyed the atmosphere, the combat, the cutscenes, and the overall story so far. The changes to the skill system are kind of overwhelming, but I love the variety (similar to Path of Exile's talent tree). I'm sure once I play more and get a grasp on the new features/systems, it'll be smooth sailing. Even the dungeons are a blast and challenging - something I hope continues in torment difficulty.

Anyways, this isn't an ad or anything for the game, haha, I just wanted to know if anyone else is playing! If you are, what are your thoughts now that it's live? If you want to play together, drop your BNET ID! (Or DM it if you want to keep it private). I'd love to play with you guys!

Update: I'm now level 57 and have started tackling some Nightmare dungeons with friends - it took FOREVER for me to finally get a key/potion to drop for me to access the dungeons, though, so that was kind of a pain... I even got to do some dungeons with @Key-J and @AFKG-Curtis last week which was a good time!

My biggest con so far is the lack of density in some of the dungeons and the overall experience/leveling system past 50. Doing anything outside of dungeons for EXP seems like a chore as the gain is so little. I saw a graph the other day breaking down experience gains and it gets even crazier at 70+! I suppose it's a good grind for most players, but a little bump up in the EXP gains would be nice (similar to D3 where you could raise the difficulty via Torments and gain more EXP/money/legendaries/etc.)

Overall, I'm still really enjoying myself and still get excited to see those orange drops (especially if they're sacred+unique). I'll have to share some screenshots of my character when I can!

Been watching one of my fave streamers play it. Looks alright.

I'd love to give it a try though, loved the first and 3rd one.

I have been playing druid and I am having a blast.

Awesome! I almost went with Druid as it was new, but decided to stick with Sorcerer - something I was recently playing in Diablo 3. How are you liking the class so far?

I am loving it right now. At level 60 I am able to deal over 100k per hit with a fast multi-hit aoe earth skill. The only weakness I see with this class atm is movement. Druid doesn't have any skills that can get them out of a sticky situation, so you have to position yourself carefully.

OK, now that I'm a bit higher in level (57) I'm amazed at your damage output... I don't think I'm even close to that even with some decent legendaries. Not to say my damage isn't decent, especially when I utilize frost novas to get +dmg to frozen/cc'd mobs, but 100k hits is crazy!

After playing more and trying out different classes I can say that some classes are just nuts with high damage numbers. I have gotten Necromancer, Barbarian, and Druid to deal Millions of DMG in a single hit, but those builds weren't good for clearing nightmare dungeons tier 70+. I am glad these classes can be made into tanks since I still haven't figured out how to improve the druid or necromancer movement.

Hey, great to see your post! I was actually holding back on sharing about Diablo 4 because I didn't want to drown everyone in my excitement. But man, we're having a blast with it! The dungeons and difficulty totally hit the mark, don't they?

I definitely agree with you, the skill systems are a bit complex - especially when you throw in those extra skill points from items. I haven't even reached Level 50 yet, when you unlock Paragon Points, and that's a whole other monster to tackle.

Yesterday, @AFKG-Curtis  and I played together to catch up on his Druid's story campaign and while we did that we threw in some Altar of Lilith hunting and Cellar diving for some extra fun. But we also had to add time for Curtis' constant re-speccing 😛 ❤️

Gotta admit, the cut scenes in Diablo 4 are pretty beautiful. Even though I wasn't really invested in the story of Diablo 3 or familiar with the previous games, I'm finding it enjoyable.

Feel free to keep the Diablo 4 discussions going. It's a game we're having a good time with, that's for sure!

One thing I will definitely suggest, focus on the story campaign until you finish the first quest of Act 4. This is when you get your mount, and it can make doing all the side quests so so much easier.

I just learned about when you get the mount, so I'm ignoring the side quests for now and re-focusing on the main campaign quests. I was grinding those side quests hard though... so I'm a bit disappointed that the mount was locked behind the campaign 😅

At first I also thought I had read that it was locked at level 30 or 35... So I did exactly what you were doing...

I did not try Diablo 4 but I will play Path of Exile today for first time and game is free to play.

Path of Exile was a blast. I tried it after playing Diablo 3 for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially if you enjoy that kind of game. The talent/skill tree in PoE is daunting though! So many options...

That was a fun night for sure!

I'm right there with you, I feel that the leveling grind past 50 is getting a little hectic. I really appreciate that they give you 3 paragon points per level, because I feel that is the only way to progress. If it was one per level that would suck.

I just hit 55 myself - and having a little bit of a love/hate relationship with my Spin-To-Win Barb. Even though Maxroll and Icyveins have it listed as a S-Tier build, I just feel like I am not performing to where I need it to be! Especially compared to @AFKG-Curtis and his druid of death!

I am still working on renown, but running more Nightmare dungeons now trying to gear up. Also trying to run Helltides where possible but it seems like I always miss them on the map.

I'm still really loving the game, I just need to figure my stuff out a little more 😛

Don't be jealous of my sexy landslide druid:) just because it runs through a huge mob of enemies and everything dies behind him!

I've finally hit Act 4 and unlocked my horsie! I'm Lv. 51 I think? Or 52? Already forgot. I'm surprisingly having a lot of fun, but of course, it's a lot more fun with friends.

EDIT: Also wanna add, I've never played Diablo 1, but I've played Diablo 2 and Diablo 3.

The horse is a game-changer! Glad to hear you're enjoying your time with the game. I never played D1 or D2 (just D3), so don't worry about your credentials there, haha.

Have you played with a party yet?

Finally beat Lilith, the ending is awesome.

The cinematic before you get to the end with Inarius and Lilith was amazing...
