AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 - More Racing Games in Catalog!

Hey, Red Team!

We’re once again sharing some exciting FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2) news! In case you didn't know, FSR 2.2 was announced on November 3rd (during our AMD Radeon™ RX 7900 Series graphics launch) and provided quality enhancements over FSR 2.1 -- especially in high-speed games like Forza Horizon 5 (which was updated with FSR 2.2 on November 8th).

With that, we're happy to announce that two more games have and will be getting FSR 2.2! Need for Speed™ Unbound, which was released on December 2nd, and F1® 22 (which will be updated with FSR 2.2 in January 2023). Additionally, an upcoming update to 3DMark will add an FSR Feature Test that will use FSR 2.2.

What is the difference between FSR 2.1 and FSR 2.2? Well, the TL;DR is that FSR 2.2 upgrades the already improved upscaling image quality of FSR 2.1 with further quality enhancements to alleviate ghosting on fast-moving objects, such as the cars found in the three games currently (and will be) supporting FSR 2.2.

Not only is our FSR Technology continuing to develop, but the list is also growing in games that have (and will have) FSR and FSR 2 support! Currently, 230 games support FSR, and the catalog of current and upcoming games to support FSR 2 has reached 101 (with 57 available now).

You can check out a detailed list of these games in the discussion post here.

You can read this detailed blog here for an even deeper dive into the latest FSR 2 news and also see that the number of supported games has already increased since its publishing just over a week ago!

As always, stay tuned for more exciting updates in the future!

@Wally_AMD Do you know if there will be an update for Assetto Corsa Competizione for FSR 2.2 (currently on 2.0 I believe)?

FSR 2.2 in Forza is better than native resolution maybe because of the anti aliasing used natively

It is possible that the use of anti-aliasing in native resolution is causing the visual quality to be inferior to that of FSR 2.2 in Forza. Anti-aliasing is a technique used to smooth out jagged edges in images, but it can also result in a loss of sharpness and detail in the image. FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) is a new upscaling technology developed by AMD that aims to provide improved image quality and performance in games.

FSR uses a combination of spatial and temporal upscaling techniques to create a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution input. By using these techniques, FSR can achieve higher image quality and performance compared to traditional anti-aliasing techniques. However, it's worth noting that the effectiveness of FSR can vary depending on the game, the hardware being used, and other factors.

Overall, it's possible that the use of FSR 2.2 in Forza is providing better image quality than native resolution due to the limitations of anti-aliasing, but it's important to consider other factors that may be contributing to the difference in visual quality.

This is an excellent post that answered a question I posted a few days ago. Love seeing a handful of games I already have on the list and a few that I really want to play. Thank you for this one 🤙
