144hz monitor reducing fps

Ok this is not a problem I just want to know what happened

Recently I upgraded my monitor from 75 Hz to 144hz

But my valorant AVG FPS dropping from 250 to 199

Why is that? Does 144 Hz reducing my FPS?

Spec:

Ryzen 5 3600

Asrock b450 pro 4f

3200mhz 16 GB

Rx570 8 GB

Upgrading to a higher hertz monitor will increase smoothness, but you will take a small hit in performance . especially if you're running an older gpu.

With 199 fps I think you're ok 😉

Why would a higher refreshrate monitor lower performance if resolution stays the same?

Unless a game has a benchmark, it is difficult to get accurate results. It is unlikely fps actually dropped, unless something else changed too.

It might have a higher res, meaning the gpu has to work harder, slowing down the fps

Hope this helped!

Hmm. Interesting i think that it could be because the GPU is working harder because it could be better res.

Doesn't matter because your already capped at 144 fps, because your monitor only runs that fast.

Refreshrate doesn't cap fps unless you have vsync or freesync on. If you don't believe me, set your monitor to say 60Hz and play some fast paced game with sync on and off. While monitor only refresses 60 times per second, you will notice the difference between pushing 60 fps or 200 fps to monitor.
