Vulkan 1.3 API support for AMD Radeon Pro 5500M (MacBook pro 16 2019)

Hello!

Could you tell me please, do you plan to implement API Vulkan 1.3 support for the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M video card driver for MacBook Pro 2019 in the near future? More and more modern professional software requires this to function properly, but due to the fact that the driver is not updated, users of Intel Mac computers are left out.
I would like to see this in the next update from you.

Best Regards

If you are just using MacOS for your 5500M Native AMD Driver then you will need to ask Apple Support since the AMD drivers are updated with each MacOS update or upgrade.

If you are running Windows Boot camp on your Mac PC then you can find out by looking at the newest AMD drivers for Boot camp from two sources:

Official AMD MAC Download page: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/apple-boot-camp

Unofficial Boot camp driver website: https://www.bootcampdrivers.com/

NOTE: According to AMD Vulcan 1.3 was supported first on this driver: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-22-1-2-vulkan-1-3

So most likely the latest 5500M Driver might already support Vulkan 1.3.

Here is a list of all the AMD Drivers that supports the latest Vulkan API: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-vulkan

Thank you,

Yes, we are talking about starting Windows using Boot camp. The latest official available driver wor boot camp does not support Vulkan 1.3 (see photo) and it would be nice to fix this.

What do you mean when you say "the latest 5500M driver can already support Vulkan 1.3?" As you can see in the image - no, it does not support Vulkan 1.3

Plus I can’t just take any of the latest drivers and install it if it doesn’t contain support for my GPU.

Sorry, You are correct.

I was thinking of the regular RX 5500M GPU but you have a RX "PRO" 5500M GPU which seems to be a OEM GPU made for Mac PCs.

The Unofficial Boot Camp driver link I posted, the author takes the latest AMD drivers and modifies it to work in a Windows Boot camp environment. As per its Compatibility Chart concerning the latest driver it has to download:

KNOWN ISSUES from the screenshot above:

Users of MacBook Pros with 5600M, 5500M, 5300M can suffer from thermal throttling which leads to reduced fps in longer gaming sessions.
Please google 'MacBook Pro VRM mod' and follow the instructions for a permanent fix (warning this is for experts only!)

According to TechPowerUp Specs on the Pro 5500M it does support Vulkan 1.3.

You can open a AMD SUPPORT Ticket but most likely they will tell you go to Apple Support. But maybe they might be able to let you know which Pro 5500M driver support Vulkan 1.3.

AMD SUPPORT: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html

EDIT: From past experience with Users and Mac PCs - AMD SUPPORT doesn't support Mac PCs with Windows Boot Camp and they will refer you to APPLE SUPPORT. But then APPLE SUPPORT will say to go to AMD SUPPORT for Windows Boot Camp drivers issues.

But, hopefully, they at least might be able to let you know which Boot Camp driver will support Vulkan 1.3 for your GPU card.

I believe that AMD supplies Boot Camp drivers as a courtesy.

Also maybe try contacting the author of the Unofficial Windows Boot Camp website. Possibly he will know if the latest Pro 5500M driver supports Vulkan 1.3.  No harm in asking.
