RX 6950XT VRAM clock stuck on high value

Hi,

I'm writing to report a bug with AMD graphics drivers that causes the VRAM clock speed to stay at its maximum frequency when using two monitors with different refresh rates.

This issue is specifically observed with the following monitors:

  • ACER KG241Q (144Hz)
  • LG UltraGear 850GP (165Hz)

When both monitors are connected (with DisplayPort) and set to their respective native refresh rates, the VRAM clock speed stays at 2240MHz, even when the monitors are not in use. This causes increased power consumption for no reason.

The only way to work around this issue is to set the ACER KG241Q to 60Hz. When this is done, the VRAM clock speed drops to 192MHz, which is more in line with normal operation. I have also tried disabling Freesync/Enhanced Sync, but this does not make any difference.

I have latest drivers installed on my PC (24.4.1)

Report it and hope for a fix, but these issues with different Hz and resolutions persist since ages on both brands. Win 11 is a bit better in handling this with the drivers, but it is not solved completely.
