So I noticed that ASUS has finally included a newer "AMD Chipset driver"
But why is it 370megs but AMD's chipset driver from their website is only 50megs?
I already installed AMD's driver back in Nov. but ASUS's is newer.
My question is - should I install ASUS over the AMD?
Please advise - thanks
The only time you need to use a chipset driver package from a motherboard manufacturer is if a BIOS update specifically states you need to.
Sorry, but that didn't help..I looked at all the Bios drivers and chipset drivers and none had that recommendation for my MB.
Also, why the huge difference in size (370megs vs 50megs)?
the larger one is more comprehensive with every chipset known
Then you can use the ones from AMD. As for why ASUS' are larger, it's because they don't bother to take out the obsolete drivers inside the package. For example, the last one I downloaded from ASUS shows they have multiple driver packages inside of it, including obsolete ones, whereas the ones from AMD only has the most recent package. And as I said before, there is only the need to use manufacturer provided drivers when they are newer than AMD's, which has only happened once in recent memory, which is the image I posted before you found unhelpful.
The larger one is more likely to have better support for the various Asus board models than the more basic AMD drivers
Thanks, that makes sense.

while a lot of models of boards are included,
the same package is offered to many model support pages,
the full package has all the parts needed
lots of vendors do that besides Asus
thanks, now I understand.
