AMD drivers lead to instant permanent black screen

Trying this forum out to see if anyone has the solution.

The problem:
I have been using this computer for about 3 years, no issues. I believe recently I had a windows update that caused a black screen.

As soon as I install / windows installs / or adrenalin installs AMD drivers, I get an instant black screen. Restarting, I get to the point where the motherboard hands off to the OS and I get 'no signal' from my monitor. Computer sounds like it's still running but just not displaying anything. I have to boot into safe mode and disable the AMD display drivers and then I can run my computer outside of safe mode again, but the performance is obviously not great (some screen tearing while moving windows around etc.)

I have tried:
Fresh install of windows 10
Fresh install of windows 11
Using AMD cleanup utility to uninstall latest drivers and install 21.10.2 instead
I bought and installed a new CPU, a new PSU and both result in the same issue - it's definitely just the drivers.
I have flashed my BIOS to the latest (necessary to install 5600G CPU)

Previous specs:
OS: Windows 10
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G
Motherboard: PRIME B450M-A
RAM: 2x16GB Corsair DDR4 3200MHz
NVME M.2 SSD: Samsung 970 Evo

Current specs:
OS: Windows 11
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

I am connecting to an LG monitor using an HDMI cable.

Please help, I'm very, very frustrated.

might be related .. probably isn't

but

Is your firmware up to date on the 970 Evo?

What are the make/model of the PSU's you were and are using?
