AMD drivers being overwritten by windows update

Hi

I have a processor with integrated AMD gra`hic card. Today I bought an RX 6500 XT. When trying to install the drivers of said Graphic Card, everything proceeds correctly, but the colors are very saturated and everything is seen in a low quality, in addition to the fact that the edges do not fit the screen (not everything fits on the monitor). I tried accessing AMD Adrenalin to see if it could fix that but I get an error saying that the Adrenalin version does not match my Graphics Card (so I think it is only detecting the integrated one). I tried downloading the 6500 XT specific driver and autodetector but still getting the same error. I read that this may be due to a bug with Windows updates but I don't know how to fix it.

It sounds like your drivers are getting overwritten by Windows Update. Try this:

1. Download the latest driver (22.4.2) here > https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-rx-6000-series/amd-radeon-rx-6500-series/amd-rade...

2. Perform a Factory Reset prior to installing the new drivers - Insdtructions here> https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/rsx2-install#faq-Setup-and-Install

First, check to make sure that your cable, (HDMI/Display) is going to your Graphics Card and not to your MB. This may be a redundant question but you have no idea how many times this has happened to people, including me and I build PCs.

I believe there is a much simpler solution to this problem then this, and one that will prevent it from the future.  You can use Local Computer Policy Editor to prevent whatever driver's Window's updates.  Under Local Policy>computer configuration>Administrative Templates>System>Device Installation>Device Installation Restrictions>"Prevent Installation of devices that match any of these device instance ID's". Then get the ID from the Device Manager details tab Making sure to pause Windows Updates until after you have installed Adrenalin Edition software and drivers and set the group policy.   However, has to be Windows 10 1909 or later, unless you want to dink around with changing Registry.

that only works on Windows Pro, not Home. Home Editions don't have a possibility to edit the local policy

If seen them being overwritten while running the installer with the installer fighting over what driver should be installed followed by black screen, only had this on windows 11 22h2 tho.
