I purchase based on price to performance mostly, but I do have a small bias towards AMD from my first computer being an Athlon XP machine and during my childhood I really wanted a high end system with an A64.

With so many computers on my home network, it's a never-ending task to keep them current with the latest AMD video cards and processors.  I only build AMD computers, mostly because I don't like the marketing practices of the other GPU and CPU manufacturers.  I also get more bang for the buck with AMD components.

Intel and Nvidia's shenanigans influenced me to go full AMD with this build.  It was clear that if left without a check, they would both fleece us into oblivion.  Price v performance, AMD was good value.  I also wanted to keep AMD in the game by throwing my $ their way.

I would have to say Price to Performance. AMD Gpu's have an advantage of rasterization performance I think raytracing is not there yet. You have paid an arm and a leg to get top tier gpu that can give you good fps with raytracing. Plus amd CPUs have so much better prices to performance.

Way back when I was running an Intel 7700k setup when AMD launched AM4. I was doing more video editing/re-encoding workloads that would benefit from having more cores and wasn't really into PC gaming at the time 

Soo .. I traded my 7700k setup for a Ryzen 7 1700 and ASUS B350 Prime Plus... and haven't looked back

My second AM4 board and every motherboard since has been ASRock AM4 and now AM5 units.

All my AMD setups have been solid and great performers for their intended uses. 

I did have a used R270x die on me that could have been from running an inadequate power supply

I had driver timeouts on my wife's RX 550 card that was due to an inadequate power supply. Issue resolved once the PSU was replaced with a larger better quality unit

Any other issues I've had were self induced from over tweaking something .. usually my memory

AMD's offerings just seem to be the better value/bang for your buck as a whole

For me its the price for performance. AMD offers much more for the same if not lower amount of price, good example is the 7800x3d. It beats almost every cpu on the market in terms of gaming.

Performance and price are important but the longevity and upgrade paths for the platform is huge. Being able to just drop a new cpu into a motherboard for multiple generations is awesome.

AMD offers a solid set of features at good value. Have built 5600x/6600, 5600X3D/6800 and 7800X3D/7900XT systems over the last few years and have been very happy with my PC builds. Love seeing AMD continuing to make advancements in their software and hardware. Reality is that I have had an exceptional experience with them overall, so I'm very excited to see what AMD dies next.

I have picked AMD CPUs because they have the best cost-to-performance in gaming and they are easily upgradable for multiple generations. Not to mention all the best gaming handhelds use AMD processors.

I generally buy for value, most bang for the buck. But, if there is a specific game or application that I want to use, then I will make sure my purchase is compatible. AMD already has an established reputation, so reliability is not an issue.

For GPUs, mostly price and VRAM capacity in a given performance category, particularly in the mid-range. If you want 16GB, the closest Nvidia equivalents are usually $100 - $200 more. Intel Arc is more competitive, but I don't buy GPUs to beta test drivers.

For CPUs, the overall cost is often closer, but platform longevity, power consumption and V-Cache bias me toward Ryzen.

Been an AMD fan for years. Athlon XP, FX4100, Ryzen 5 5600X and current Ryzen 9 5900X. GPU's from R7 200 series, RX6700 XT Gaming X, Nitro+ RX6900 XT SE and currently AMD RX7900 XTX. The value for money has always been the reason i have used AMD over the years. The only downside of late has been some disastrous drivers.
