I recently did a windows update and my PC was unable to boot into windows. Would freeze right before loading windows login screen, with just the Asus splash screen still showing.
For a long time now my PC would sometimes not boot up and freeze like described above. I would usually restart it a few times and eventually windows would boot.
Anyways this recent update really bricked my PC bad. Would not boot to windows even after mutiple manual restarts. Did a bios update just in case. Bios was about a year old and a new one was out.
Well the bios update bricked my mobo..so getting that RMAd...lol. I actually may have hit my board with a screw driver while pulling the m.2. But that's another story.
Got another mobo and installed everything..same no boot issue. Tried every troubleshooting step..switched ram, hdd and removed all other non OS drives and checked all power cables. Decided maybe the cpu is bad, since it would freeze immediately even when booting from a usb with Windows 11 installation. So I tried booting with 1 cpu core by disabling the others in bios. Well it booted just fine to my original OS drive and even to the Windows 11 install USB.
What do you guys think? Never had a cpu fail but could it have been slowly dying this whole time since I had previous boot issues? Of course it is 6 months outside of the 3 year warranty.
Has anyone heard of a cpu failing like this?
Thanks
