Any help or solutions to this?
I have the same problem with my reference RX480. The clocks always stay locked at 1266MHz for graphics and 2000MHz for memory, causing GPU utilization to shoot up to 100% at idle.
I've noticed that a quick reset of the graphics settings in Radeon Software fixes it, but the problem resets after every boot. I'm assuming this is an Adrenalin-related issue.
Also GPU clock is always on 1430.
Desktop or laptop? What windows version are you using? How are you monitoring the Temps on your GPU card? If laptop need manufacturer and model. What AMD driver are you posting about? Is the GPU Overclocked?
Check to see if your Desktop mobo or Laptop has a newer BIOS version to install. Also newer Chip set. Check to see if your GPU card is clean from dust or particles. If you are using MSI Afterburner or similar program try to disable or uninstall it and see if it makes any difference.
Are you using Wattman to try and control your GPU's fan or do you have any program on your computer other than Wattman to control your GPU's fan? Do you have good air circulation throughout your computer case?
Does an older AMD driver run GPU cooler and if so which driver?
It's a custom PC , I built , have done so several times for myself and others. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit , Asrock Z370 EXTREME 4 motherboard , with the latest BIOS. Trixx was installed to check temps and fan speeds and RGB settings for card, nothing ever OC. Great Circulation CPU runs real cool with H7 Lumi Cryorig Cooler. Driver is the latest from AMD. Never used Wattman and newest Chipsets are loaded. Fan control has always been on AUTO , but with the latest driver temps are running much higher even when just browsing forums. GPU is super clean almost brand new , purchased from newegg a moth ago. Any other info just ask and thanks for the reply.
According to the knowledgeable people in this Forum, MSI Afterburner and Trixx are not fully compatible with AMD Wattman. They cause issues with the AMD Driver.
The Forum always recommends to use Wattman and uninstall the other monitoring software. Kingfish can tell you how to use Wattman to control your GPU fans correctly.
I have reference RX 480 8GB and gpu is normal IDLE 300 MHz memory. You try uninstall GPU with DDU and after install. I have also lower temp about 2 Celsius in Idle.
Exactly , also tried a fresh install install of the newest driver after cleaning with DDU and no luck. Rolled back to the previous non Adrenaline Driver and problem was resolved. Issue with Adrenaline for sure. Thanks everyone for all the responses. Nice forum here. Have a good one.
I have had this problem once. Signing out/in again fixed it. Driver problem surely.
