I agree with pokester that this will benefit for consumers... but if AMD does not reduce the electrical consumption required in the following Threadripper generations Intel will win again:
AMD TR4 socket motherboards with only one 8 pin cpu power connector = 0
Intel 2066 socket motherboards with only one 8 pin cpu power connector = MSI X299 SLI Plus, ASRock X299 Taichi, GIGABYTE X299 UD4 (rev. 1.0) and more
As a user of Ryzen 5 1600 I would also like to start my experience with Threadripper without being forced to change my 750W PSU, I guess I'm not the only one who thinks so.
I will wait interested if AMD offers more ecological options
