I would appreciate if someone could provide a reliable list of cards which support Freesync over HDMI.
Will my card Radeon R7 240 work with that standard?
No, the R7 240 does not support FreeSync, you will need one of the cards listed on the FreeSync page, or an RX 400 series card which isn't listed because apparently the webmaster fell asleep.
Thank you, all the cards from the list have display port. So I do not understand that overall idea. I need a new card and a new monitor anyway, so why not to go with display port instead. Why artificially limiting the functionality of cards which actually need Freesync over HDMI as they do not have the display port. That does not make any sense to me.
FreeSync via HDMI is primarily targeted at televisions, which do not have DisplayPort, and for laptops, which don't have a DisplayPort connector. As far as low profile goes, the restricted thermals of a single slot cooler will keep their performance too low to even bother with FreeSync, which is why many MiniITX cases are designed to take dual slot graphics cards, such as the RX 480.
You do not have to run demanding games to enjoy fressync on a slower card. To properly run arcade emulated games you need dynamic refresh as every game has different fps in the range of 50-60Hz.
Regarding TV's, I do not see any around supporting Freesync.
They are coming to the market about the same time as next generation consoles as they will output 4K while still using a relatively weak graphics chip.
Besides, there is no card on the market which could support freesync and come in a low profile factor. I'm stuck without freesync, that is not fair. I will not fit any of those cards to my htpc. Any advice?
