    Upgrading AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor

      Description of Question:

      Based on the information above I would like to upgrade my processor. Per below are the recommendations per Model. What would be the best below with the specification above to provide optimal output. I do use this desktop for gaming and research for home use. Any recommendation on the below processor to choose?

          The top performance CPU would be Phenom II X4 980 (4 core, 3.7 GHz).


          Note that these processors were sold around 2009-2011, so you will probably have to find a used processor. Note that the fastest upgrade processor for any platform - in this case AM3 - is always expensively priced on the used market. Thus, which CPU to choose may depend on your budget. For example, Phenom II X4 980 may be hard to find, and expensive; but, Phenom II X4 965 (4 core, 3.4 GHz)  may be easy to find, moderately priced, and it would be a significant performance increase over your.Athlon II X2 215.


          Also, Phenom II X6 (6 core) CPUs exist, but the HP support page does not indicate support for those, and I don't see any BIOS upgrade available that might enable support. These are probably not officially supported.
