I bought the Athlon X4 845, which is now seated in my Gigabyte F2A88X-UP4, and I am experiencing a strange issue. There are certain games that cause my CPU to throttle itself. For most games I have tested, this is usually not a problem - the clock rate might briefly dip down to 3.0ghz. However, for certain games, most notably Fallout 4 and Planetary Annihilation, there are frequent, and sometimes constant, throttling to 3.0ghz or below.
Turbo Core Performance and Turbo Boost Performance have no effect as to whether or not this happens, I have tested with both of those BIOS settings enabled and disabled. Thermals are also not an issue - I am using a Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E.
Could this be from the beta BIOS from Gigabyte that allows me to use this CPU, or could this be from the small amount of L2 Cache? (I realize that part of the problem is due to Fallout 4 have a not-so-optimized engine, but this does happen in other games.)
