So like the title says, Has anyone had experience with forcing an older driver in windows 10 to get their old x1950 or other graphics card to work? I have an x1950 here that just won't be recognized, and am having trouble forcing it to be so...
The X1950 does not meet the minimum requirements of Windows 8 or Windows 10. It will not work. FAQ: Windows® 10 Driver and AMD Graphics Product Compatibility
Well yeah I read that FAQ...I was hoping for some definitive minimum requirements, not just some vague statement. According to that, the minimum backwards compatible cards that will work with the Cat drivers are the 5000 series? Even though they won't enjoy full DX12 support, right?
I understand the official answer, but I wish there was more info as to why not. No workarounds for this with limited functionality more so than the Generic Windows driver?
My eldest computer is on win8.1pro and using an agp 1950pro. It has cat 10.2 driver version 8.593 for Vistax64 installed
Honestly it's been so long I don't remember how I got it going but it does have a working CCC. it's v ery possible I had to point to the driver and install it that way from device manager??
So.. if you have win8 and you can get it going with that.. maybe.. just maybe, upgrading to win10 will work but you'll have to shut off driver updates and hide those that sneak through.
Note also that I don't play any games on this computer so I have no idea what it can handle.
Ah, thanks for the tip. In device manager,I tried making it search through the C:\ATI folder with no success. Anything specific I should point it to or force it to install in the ATI extracted folder? Such as a specific *.inf file or something?
Sorry, that's the part I don't remember. A little logical trial and error should find the right one though.
A search on the Windows 10 Compatiblity Center says the x1950 Pro is compatibile. Does this just mean compatibility with the generic windows driver?
That would be my guess. Bare bones functionality is all you'd get. Until I dig out the original software, my keyboard, mouse, webcam, joystick and gamepads etc. all suffer from a lack of "features" found from previous installs.
Do you know if DirectX 11.0 cards are a requirement?
