This is a 955 on a GB790FX and an HD5870
Everything has the latest driver AFAIK and Win8.1 OS is uptodate.
All the monitoring apps and device manager etc. show the 955
I've tried the only 3 versions of Overdrive (4.3.1ish) I could find.. same thing.
Here's probably where the issue lies.
I have a home control application that is a REAL PIA to install properly so..
This computer's drives were attached to my old motherboard an Athlon something with AGP and using an Audigy.
I can't bear to lose the above app so I let windows discover the new motherboard etc. It's taken a while but other than a few annoying Bluescreens ( I think..tcpip issue) it works pretty good. Except this error.
The manual says it's either not an AMD processor or it's old.
Even though I've got this feeling none will work, I've been scouring the net looking for much older versions of AOD as I know I was using it with this configuration a couple years ago. Not much luck, if anyone knows of an archive with a bunch please let me know.
This version should work. Any ideas? Maybe something in the registry?
Are you trying to overclock the unit? Or monitor the usage? Maybe try other software to replicate the problem?
Not OCing yet, need to get AMD overdrive working first. All other programs identify the CPU properly it's just Overdrive.
Are you Overclocking the CPU with Overdrive? Whats the reason for using Overdrive if I may ask?
I might if I could get it working. It's an all AMD system and overdrive is good and trustworthy at monitoring everything, as I was experiencing heat issues.
If I may advise its not good to OC the CPU using any software, Always use the bios if you want to OC. To monitor the temps and such maybe try CPUz and GPUz? Very good programs to monitor temps and usage. Hope this helps.
Kinda getting off topic here. The OP and I are wondering why AMD Overdrive can't detect an AMD CPU when there is an AMD CPU in the system. Where does it (AOD) get it's information?
Thought I'd add. The troubled computer has now updated to Win10 x86 and AOD is working perfectly.
I had searched through the registry and references to the CPU were identical to Device manager so no help there. I guess it will remain a mystery.
