I survived my Army "Tour 365" in Nam and came back to The World to Fort Belvoir, VA. When I got "short", I spent five months in Project Transition learning to Program Computers at (then) Strayer College in Washington DC. Our teacher was an UCMC Cpt InsertNameHere and his friend Commodore Grace Hopper. They taught me more than I ever imagined about the computers I had worked on before getting drafted. IO had worked for IBM and Univac midnights while attending the University of Minnesota. I was a Humanities major, half a century ago. I wrote DEC BAL on my first real Software Engineer job. In 1997, I was sent by Hypercom to a Customer Acceptance Test at a site in Buenos Aries, Argentina. I had written all the C code and helped design the hardware for the first X.21 network for AMEX. It all worked and I was a hero I came back and went to bed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Still here. I have scratched thru some of the mental fog and want to write code for this homebrew years ago I built while in that fog.
