Can't enable MI210 Virtual Functions in VMware

Dear all,

I am evaluating a MI210 board for test environment of my company's R&D.

Our goal is to partition the MI210 (the Physical Function as I learned) in 8 or 16 Virtual Functions using the SR-IOV, then mapping them to the Virtual Machines.

I downloaded and installed the latest driver available of VMware 8, set all the BIOS settings as described in the very few docs available online, but cannot have more than 1 virtual function.

The VIB module is configured with the command:

    esxcfg-module -s "GPU0=8 GPU1=8 MxGPUi=0" amdgpuv

In the boot log of esxi host I always found the following:

2024-10-14T18:31:36.843Z cpu101:2098277)amdgpuv_log: amdgpuv_find_conf:199: [amdgpuv]: Find conf by attach num 0

2024-10-14T18:31:36.843Z cpu101:2098277)gim warning libgv: [23:0:0][amdgv_parse_config_opt:792] VF number 8 to be enabled exceeds the vf limit.

How can I enable the vfs ?

Thank you and best regards,

Marco Menichetti.

  1. What is your platform including system BIOS version?
  2. What is your host driver(ESXI) version?
  3. What is the Guest kernel version?
  4. Is ROCm installed, if yes, which version?
  5. Can you provide the IFWI (VBIOS) version of your MI-210?
