A proposal for the modding community

Hello fellow modders.  I'd like to throw something out there and see if there is much interest.   My employer deals in slow moving and obsolete inventory in the heavy truck and mining equipment world.  We buy stuff for dirt cheap to resell.  I can't tell you how much stuff we end up just tossing into the scrap bins.  Some of this stuff could be really neat in the hands of a PC modder.  I'm talking things like copper heater cores for custom water cooling loops, various pieces of aluminum for DIY heatsinks, various wiring, tubing, hoses, etc. If enough people were interested, I was going to start going through our scrap bins periodically and taking some stuff home.  I'd probably create a page on my Facebook gaming group page and also in my Discord to display everything.  Then if anyone wanted anything they could let me know.  I'd just ask that you pay shipping unless it was something fairly valuable that I had to pay for, and in that case I'd just pass the cost along. For example, we just got in a bunch of Tygon tubing in 50' boxes that I'd have to pay for, but it would be dirt cheap.  It isn't clear I don't think, but would be good for a custom loop.

Also, I just ordered a bunch of clearance items off Modmymods.com and I was thinking of applying this same logic and seeing if maybe I could negotiate a buyout price for a bunch of their clearance items to get them even cheaper, and then make it all available to the modding community here.  Just not sure exactly how many modders we have in the community.  Anyway, that's about it

It's great that you are trying to reach out to your fellow modders with such a generous offer.  I know it's fun to look through stuff and think about how you might use it when fabricating a case that's a bit different than what you can buy.  Shipping charges are something we don't think too much about if you have Amazon and their prime account (free shipping), even though you pay for that with an annual fee.  Have you checked into cheap shipping options for heavier stuff?  Your cost will also need to include the shipping box, so don't forget about that.

This is exactly the type of stuff I like to incorporate into my mods, old, vintage, weathered, industrial looking items. I would be very interested in this.

ok,   let me do some thinking.  for larger items I would probably take pictures at work and then post them for a certain period of time to see if anyone is interested.  @retroPCmods are you on Discord or Facebook?  That's going to be the easiest place for me to post this stuff.  I have a PC modding channel in Discord and I'd just add them to photos on my Facebook gaming group page.

Sounds good @red5 , I just joined your Discord and Facebook Groups.

Thanks!

Where are you located?  I'm in Ohio, so the closer we are the cheaper shipping would be.

I'm in Portland, OR.

So USPS Priority Flat Rate Boxes would probably work out best.

i'm working on another "Sleeper" PC atm that will have green patina chassis and seeking copper tubing in 12mm OD with 0.5mm wall thickness.

I'll keep my eyes open at work.
