What is the best compatible AMD CPU to use on B350M PRO-VDH?

Hi,

I have:

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit

CPU
AMD Ryzen 7 1700
Summit Ridge 14nm Technology

RAM
32,0GB Dual-Channel Gskills @ 1465MHz (16-18-18-38)

Motherboard
Micro-Star International Co. Ltd B350M PRO-VDH (MS-7A38) (AM4)

Graphics
U28E590 (3840x2160@60Hz)
SAMSUNG (3840x2160@60Hz)

4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti (NVIDIA)

I want to upgrade to the best possible AMD CPU to insert into my B350M PRO-VDH motherboard.

Is 5800x overkill?

Thanks

Ben

Go look on MSI's website for that motherboard. It's an easy Google search

And?

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350M-PRO-VDH/Overview

It says nowhere what CPU's are compatible?

Thanks, didn't know.

Which one would you choose, 3700x?

First you motherboard doesn't support the AMD 4000 & 5000 Series Processors. Only 3000 or older processors.

Here is your motherboard's CPU SUPPORT LIST with all the supported Processors that are Windows  11 compatible: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B350M-PRO-VDH#support-cpu

Second to determine the best processor depends on what you are planning on using your computer for and what you have budgeted to spend.

Third, You need to go to the same link I posted to see if the RAM MEMORY you have installed is compatible with the new Processor.

Right above the CPU list, click on which memory for what CPU you decide on.

Thanks, I think they do

The 3900x looks like a good choice to me.

Just to let you know you will need BETA BIOS version 7A38vAJ, which seems to be the latest MSI BIOS version for your motherboard.

So before installing the Ryzen 9 3900X, if that is what you decide to purchase, update the BIOS FIRST before installing the new processor otherwise it won't boot up or be recognized.

BUT FIRST you must update the Motherboard's CHIPSET. Here is AMD Latest CHIPSET Driver for your motherboard: https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/b350

The MSI warns that you must update the chipset before updating the BIOS. So to be on the safe side install the latest  MSI or AMD CHIPSET with the AMD Processor fix for Windows 11 flaw for AMD processors.
