Why is there no 64 core AMD CPU?

 

I had the impression that I would be able to get 3990x on a sTR4 socket. 

is 3990x faster than its swrx80 counter part?

The ThreadRipper 3990x does have 64 cores and 128 threads and it does require a sTRX4 socket:

While the ThreadRipper Pro 3995wx also has 64 cores and 128 threads but it can support 2 Terabytes of RAM Memory while the ThreadRipper 3990x can support only 256 GB of RAM Memory.

The ThreadRipper Pro 3995wx is the Consumer version of a AMD EPYC Server processor.
