Ryzen 9 not detected

Hello everyone,

i upgraded my computer with an new Ryzen 9 5900X but my system says that i have my old Ryzen 7 running.

i have an B550 Plus Asus TUF gaming mainboard and the first thing i did was bringing the bios to the newest version. The next thing i did was installing the newest and drivers and after that dont helped i also reseted the CMOS.

and yes i put in the right CPU its also very save that the cpu i buyed direct from amazon is an original. The system is running stable and i think its faster then before on games with high cpu usage (Stellaris Endgame with big galaxy now running much faster) also if i read data via armory crate i says i have the old cpu and only 8 cores running but the MHZ are higher than before fitting to an Ryzen 9. Also made cinebech running but this one says also its only the old cpu running.

internet dont helped and some friend with a bit more knowhow also have no idea whats wrong they say maybe there are some problems with the updated bios version.

Any idea what the problem can be ?

Greetings

@FunkZ brought up a good point. Maybe someone switched your new processor before you got it or if the Retail Package wasn't tampered with possibly at the factory it was switched.

Send in your Processor's Serial Number to make sure it is the correct CPU and also asked them if your processor might be bad by opening a AMD SUPPORT - WARRANTY TICKET.

Also open a ASUS SUPPORT - Warranty Ticket for your motherboard. It is possible the BIOS chip might be defective since you updated the BIOS and it is still showing the old processor.

Wookie, I agree. Please post an image of the top of your processor and try it in another MB. Who was the seller at Amazon? Ask Amazon if others have complained. Did you install a fresh copy of Windows? Thanks and enjoy, John.

Try doing a CMOS CLEAR so that BIOS will be reset to its default factory settings with the new processor installed.

Now see if the processor is recognized.

Also make sure in BIOS it shows the correct processor that you have installed.

then go to Windows System Information or open Windows Task Manager to Performance and see if it is showing the correct Processor or the old one.

According to the TUF Gaming B550 Plus CPU list, the 5900X is supported from BIOS version 1004 and higher. If your system meets those requirements but your CPU is still being detected by the motherboard as a Ryzen 7 8-core processor then something has gone awry. Assuming ASUS hasn't made some horrible mistake that would impact thousands of users, not just yourself, then it would seem you purchased a mislabeled CPU.

Things you can do:

Power Cycle the board for at least 5min and then CMOS clear. After that reset to defaults. This was actually written by an ASUS rep.

If it fails. Take out everything from the board, CPU as well! Do a BIOS flashback. Read boards manual how to do it. I know its strange but some boards do support flashing without CPU.

Good luck
