Hello,
Can anyone help me trouble shoot?
I just upgraded from the R5 3600 to the R9 5900x. And upgraded from a tiny Be QUIT cooler to the Aztec Symphony 360
And i crash in game(100%) or on a CPU benchmark(50%) with AIDA64 Extreme.
The crash indicates to the CPU, because of the LED on the MB.
-I did a BIOS factory defaults, i did a firmware updade.
-Enabled/disabled XMP
-Enabled/disabled SAM
-checked all the cables
-Temps are OK
Specs:
AMD R9 5900x
ASrock 6900XT Phantom Gaming
MSI Tomahawk Max B450
G.Skill 4x8GB @3200Mhz (XMP Enabled)
Crucial P1 1TB nVME m.2
EVGA 1000w Gold
Aztec Symphony 360
Corsair 465x Airflow

I've heard of that happening in the past with high current draw AMD CPUs, like the top of the line FX series.
So the only way out of this is to swap out the CPU for a lower model or swap out the motherboard for one that is rated to support the 5900X series.
Really sad it is still sold as "compatible after bios update". It definitely shouldn't.
It would have saved me some bucks. Out of misery i sold my stuff, and bought a AM5 upgrade instead. After i knew I only needed to replace my mobo, to get it working.
Anyways, spread the word, before people make the same mistake as i did.
Thanks for your time!
I wonder if you need to update the AMD chipset drivers. Review this link and consider doing it.
Are you using the latest bios 7C02v3H and did you clear cmos ?
Have you tried optimized default bios settings ?
I friend of mine got some info from another forum.
And aparently the Tomahawk, can't deliver enough AMPS for the 9 5900x.
Something i can't explain. Only that the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max isn't stable with the 9 5900x cause of the limitations of the MOBO
