I've purchased an upgrade instead of my old trusty 2200G, a 5900x. Bought it for an equvalent of $50. Saler told me that the cpu is sold as-is, with no warranties, since he failed to get display signal on any mobo he installed it in. And I thought, "heck, maybe I'll get it to work?"
Now, I have the very same problem. It just starts up but no POST, no signal on hdmi, no loading of the OS. Just fans spinning and CPU getting hot. Alright, given that mobo is on very basic A320 chipset, it could be the root of the problem, but the thing is, it's compatible with 5900x and is updated to the very last version of BIOS. 2200G works perfectly fine, using it now to post this message.
So, what to do with the dead CPU? Is any kind of ressurrection possible?
I have two 3950X CPUs that are dead. I am fairly certain any work that could be done on them would be more expensive than buying a new 5800X3D.
Your problem could very well be that you are on an older board that may technically support it via BIOS updates, while it is not equipped to handle something like the 5900X.
Rare as that may be, it would definitely be wise to test it in another motherboard if you or a friend has one.
I have seen very few posts if any about Ryzen 5000 series CPUs dying.
If it is dead, I don't think any kind of work can be done on it. I have not heard as much about CPUs being repaired, as I have GPUs.
OK, that's sad. Looks like I just wasted my money.
sorry to hear about this. Could you please let us know the exact model of your A320 motherboard?
