I should start by saying I'm not very knowledgeable about PC hardware.
I brought a pre built PC with a 5800x around 4-5 years ago. After around a year of having it, it started having said issue where on boot OR waking up from sleep, the cpu temps would continue to rise to 90-100 °C and then the PC would shut down.
(Perhaps important: as soon as the PC is booted and signed in, the CPU temps are already 80-90°C) (Perhaps unimportant, but after rebooting the PC about 3-5 times, the cpu would not overheat and I could finally use my PC with no issues)
About 3 years ago I called a repairer who said the issue was with the 5800x being susceptible to overheating, and so he reapplied my thermal paste and this fixed my issue completely ... until recently.
I bought some thermal paste and reapplied it, hoping this would fix it once more, however, it is still having this issue.
After some research online, I've also changed by BIOS CPU settings to PPT 105, TDC 80, EDC 90, and the curver optimiser at negative 5, however this did not fix the issue.
I've also checked that my CPU cooler is functional (Or at least is telling the BIOS that its RPM is increasing as the cpu heats up)
My specs are:
- AMD ryzen 7 5800x
- Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R ARGB AIO Cooler
- Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Wi-Fi Motherboard
- Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070
- Phanteks Eclipse P400A Airflow Plus D-RGB (case)
