Hey there, i bought a 5700x with a gigabyte elite avx v2. I noticed in some games like WoW the 5700x will decrease its clockspeed. The weird thing is, in Windows 11 the power profile is high. So i don't understand why it is doing that. I come from an i5 9600k and im not comfortable at all with it when my frames are dipping like crazy from the clock speed.
I attached a Screenshot With the decreased Clockspeed while running wow.
In Cinebench the 5700x runs completly fine at 4,1ghz all core turbo without dipping.
Sbre, please post screenshots of Ryzen Master (RM) both Basic and Advanced views running Cinebench R23. Only RM images, please. Looks like processor is overheating, clock should boost to 4.6 GHz. Please post the rest of your components including the cooler. Thanks and enjoy, John.
Hi misterj,
thank you for your answer. Here are your screenshots of RM while running Cinbench R23.
The rest of my components are:
Cooler: NH-D14
Graphics: RTX 3070 Ti
Power Supply 650w be quiet
Mainboard: B550 Gigabyte Aorus Elite AVX V2
But i think i fixed it, in the screenshots i enabled PBO. Apparently it didnt use PBO before at all until i enabled it in the BIOS. WoW runs now smoothly too.
Thanks, Sbre. If you are happy, I am happy. I think there is a problem here and will send the image of Basic mode to AMD support. Thanks and enjoy, John.
Thank you misterj, what do you think it might be?
Indeed it is quite strange that without pbo it downclocks quite randomly in games like WoW and with pbo on it works.
I can say for sure now, if i turn PBO off again, it will clock down below the base clock again.
Thanks, Sbre. I cannot say what the detail of the problem is but I know you should not have to enable PBO in the BIOS. In fact Ryzen processors should work great right out of the box without opening BIOS. You have the problem fixed to your satisfaction so I have not asked for more testing. If you want to try to chase it down, let me know but I'll warn you, the first I will ask for is a Clear CMOS and stay out of BIOS until we understand what is happening. Thanks and enjoy, John.
Thank you for your answer,
i resetted the whole bios, and i noticed, apparently the XMP profil was the culprit. But sadly the ram runs now on 2133 mhz instead of 3200 mhz.
I removed two from the the four ram sticks, and now everything runs smoothly on 3200mhz and without core speed fluctuations... apparently the memory controller can't handle 4 sticks on 3200 mhz.
Thanks, Sbre, I think this will explain your situation:
Thanks and enjoy, John.
Hello!
I have same weird behavior on my 5700X in BF 2042 with 4 dimms of ram at 3600 Mhz CL 18 on ASRock B550 PG Velocita. Strange frequency dips to 2300 Mhz than back to 4400 Mhz while average clock speed is 3400-3700 Mhz while playing that game... I had before 16 GB DDR 4 kit at 3200 Mhz with two dimms dual channel and frequency act normally at 4,4-4,7 GHz in BF.
What shall I do? Enabling PBO will solve this or removing 2 dimms and run only 16 GB will restore the boost to 4,65 GHz?
Thanks for helping
