Hello, a week ago I upgraded my CPU to the Ryzen 5 4500 and I was very pleased with the price and the capacity it has with 6 cores and 12 threads, it's something cool, anyway, I need help and I don't know how to solve it.
I bought the Ryzen 5 4500 but the person who assembled it was a company that sells various computer products, the person from the store assembled it and when I got home I immediately downloaded/installed a game and the CPU reached 70º, I was completely freaked out because with my old CPU (i5 4460) it never reached those temperatures and if it did it was because there was dust inside the PC and when I cleaned the old CPU it never reached 70º even if it was under a lot of stress, I have no idea if my CPU is overclocked, I asked the person at the store who set up the CPU if he had changed the BIOS and activated the overclock but he said no, even so I searched the internet and the temperatures I have are not normal, those 70º when installing a game don't seem normal to me, then I played a game and the temperature reached 67º, in my opinion it is a high temperature, I need help, I went to BIOS to try to disable the overclock but I couldn't because the version of the motherboard I have is version 5 and I say that because if the BIOS was an earlier version I would be able to disable the overclock, I don't know if I really have the overclock active what I don't think is normal is the high temperatures.
The Ryzen 5 4500 has a base of 3.6 GHz and at max boost it has 4.1 GHz, so in my old cpu reaching boost wasn't overclocking in the Ryzen ones I've been told if the CPU reaches max boost it means it's overclocked, besides my CPU reaches 4. 2 GHz and not 4.1 GHz, as this is the first time I've had a Ryzen CPU I'm not sure if the CPU reaches max boost if it means it's overclocked, can someone help me disable the overclock if it's really active?
I haven't played any games for a week now for fear that the CPU will burn out or that other parts of my PC will be damaged.
If I were a person with more money, I wouldn't have any problems playing games with this temperatures , but since life isn't easy and I've had to make an effort to buy this CPU (more motherboard and RAM ) , it would be disastrous for me if anything went wrong.
First your Ryzen 4500 is unlocked for Overclocking so you can overclock or underclock the processor if you desire so.
Many people use Ryzen Master to overclock or underclock their Ryzen processors but BIOS is the best way.
Second 70c playing games is a very good temperature and nowhere close to overheating.
The Ryzen 4500 Maximum Operating Temperature is 95c which means once the processor's temperature reaches or surpasses 95c it will automatically throttle or slow down to keep it at or below 95c.
Your processor was engineered to run safely up to 95c for long periods of use. So if the hottest your processor is getting is 70c then you nothing to worry about. It is running fairly cool at that temperature.
I would start to worry if the temps start reaching or surpassing 90c. I would start troubleshooting to find out why before it starts overheating past 95c temperatures.
In Windows, check your power plan settings. Set it to "Balanced" or "Power Saver" to reduce CPU power consumption when idle. It's important to note that the Ryzen CPUs are designed to operate at higher temperatures compared to older Intel CPUs, and reaching the maximum boost clock is not considered overclocking. However, temperatures above 70°C during gaming should not be a cause for concern if the cooling solution is working properly. Nevertheless, it's always a good idea to monitor temperatures and ensure they stay within safe ranges to protect your investment.
can you do me a favor and send a print screen showing the location of the settings ?
My Ryzen 5 4500 sometimes would hit 70°C too, and i use AIO cooler. It is normal. If you wanna check if its really normal, use cinebench. If the temps still below 95°C you're still good to go. What concern me is that your clock speed in BIOS is 4,2GHz. While my cpu in BIOS is 3,6 GHz. Check your idle temps, if you are using stock cooler you should be at 38-45°C. If you use an AIO like me you should be set on 35-40°C. And for me in cinebench i reached 93°C max temp.
