Ryzen 2700X BSOD and memory issues

My system is a Gigabyte Gaming 5 with f23d (latest) bios, 2 Ripjaw V F4-3200C16D-16GVGB 8GB sticks, GTX1080, etc. Just upgraded my Ryzen 5 1600X to the 2700x and everything seemed great at first. Then I started seeing game crashes (mainly planet coaster). I had it overclocked so I started rolling that back. Eventually the PC crashed hard and I ended up doing a reset. I've flashed BIOS to defaults and still had crashes. Still repeated crashes sometimes right after a windows boot. The only thing I could think of was to reduce the ram clock. That seemed to work. Then I put it back to 3200 and boom, more crashes. I'm currently sitting at 3000mhz and so far so good.

Is this a motherboard issue? ( I really hate this board) Should I look for either a bios update (they are so slow) or attempt to configure it myself (ryzen ram calc)? Could it be something else such as a driver?
