Hello all,

First, I appologise if this old hat but I've been spinning my wheels for days trying to figure this one out. Is there any off the shelf AM4 M-Atx that will support either of these without requiring a BIOS flash?

The intent of the build is for last gen gaming and emulation (I'm not at all bothered with the current triple A "scene") on UWQHD Medium - Ultra settings at most. I hope to get at least a 6750XT or at most a 6950XT to pair with it if that makes any difference. I am aware of PC Part Picker although I have found it is not reliable or even complete in terms of what's available. For example it tried to tell me my CPU cooler was too big for the case despite it being a good couple mm under manufacturers max allowance.

A side note (If I may, so as not to clutter the forums), I have been using things like NewEggs PSU calculator and PCBuilders bottlekneck calculator. How reliable, if at all, are these? I keep getting very strange results.

As long as you're not buying an open box / return / refurb / used you should be good with any 500 series motherboard. All the new XT chips are still based on the same Vermeer core, they just have slightly higher clock speeds. If you check the motherboard CPU compatibility matrix I believe you'll find that the minimum BIOS version is the same as for the original X chip.

If for some reason it would require a BIOS flash most 500 series boards support flashing directly from USB without CPU/RAM installed.

5950X was one of the launch SKU's.  Any currently sold board should support it out of the box.

Almost every manufacturer had it listed as requiring a more recent bios in their support tables.

In any case, I've decided to go AM5 with an X870 board, 7950X3D and 7900XTX.
