Can you run Threadripper 3960x in WX80 form factor motherboard?

Hello,

Recently I have bought Threadripper 3960x in the secondary market and cant find any TRX40 motherboard in adequate shape and price at the moment. The only motherboards I can find are from EBAY and are refurbished or in case they are new the price is double the original. At the same time WRX80 motherboards are freely available even at local online shops in EU. If it is an policy from AMD side it is a little bit unfair. My question is can I use WRX80 socket type motherboard to run Threadripper 3960x which is TRX40? Would it work? I have heard some guys even using simple Ryzen motherboards to run Threadripper (accidentally, they bought incorrect motherboard for the CPU). It would be nice if somebody could help me in this.

Best regards,

Roberts

No. You have to use a TRX40 (sTRX4 socket) motherboard. Anybody saying that they are using a Threadripper in an AM4 socket is pulling your chain.
