AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

When building my computer with a Ryzen 9 5950X as soon as the power button is pressed there is a red debug light on the motherboard. I have reseated the cpu, reapplied thermal paste, reseated the ram. Almost everything has been reseated. I have a MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Max Wifi with a 2070 Super. I have even put in a new 1000 watt power supply. So far everything to trouble shoot it has not worked. I don’t know what else I can do. It was purchased off of Amazon and no pins are bent.

Blurgo, I suggest you contact MSI and ask what the red light means. What does the MB manual say? Please remove all but one memory stick and try. Do you have another video card to try? Enjoy, John.

First thing, do you have the 8 pin CPU Power connected to your motherboard? With it off the computer won't boot up.

Here is what the RED Debug light means. Most likely is your CPU Trouble LED Light:

Checking your Motherboard's CPU SUPPORT List for the Ryzen 9 5950X this is what is shows:

Ryzen 9 Vermeer 5950X 100 3.4GHz 8MB 64MB B2 105 N/A 7C91v20.zip

According to your Motherboard's BIOS download page your CPU should work out of the box since the original BIOS version is the same one your need.

You can use your Motherboard's BIOS FLASHBACK Feature to update your BIOS without needing your CPU working:

If you have the 8 Pin CPU Power connector connected to your motherboard then next thing you need to do is check your Motherboard's BIOS version to see if it has the correct BIOS for your motherboard to recognize and boot up with your new processor.

Once you verify that you have the CPU Power connected and BIOS Version 7C91v20.zip or newer and you still get the CPU Trouble light please post back with your results.

The best way to troubleshoot a PC that is not booting up is to let BIOS determine which Hardware is failing.

To do that you must disconnect all hardware from your Motherboard EXCEPT:

Windows Drive

PSU

CPU

Then turn power on and see if the RED light turns on and then off and the DRAM light come on. This means that BIOS tested your CPU and it passed its BIOS Test and found no RAM installed thus lighting up the DRAM Trouble light.

Next install one RAM Stick in the appropriate DIMM Slot and turn power back on. Now both CPU and DRAM lights should go on and then off and the GPU LED light should turn on.

At this point connect your GPU card and Monitor to the PC and see if it starts to boot into Windows.

This is a long last shot but you can also check under the CPU for bent/missing pins.

But I really hope that no one is missing....
