AMD Ryzen™ 7 8700G to drive a Monitor with 5.120 x 2.160 Resolution @120 Hz

Hi all

I am looking to build an office system centered around a Monitor with a resolution of 5.120 x 2.160 @120 Hz.

Does anyone know if the Ryzen 7 8700G can drive that (and what Motherboard would support that output)?

Any Feedback is greatly appreciated

P.S. I know this Combo will NOT perform well for gaming...it doesn't have to

so it does seem like the 8700G does support the DP Resolution and probably at that frequency. Your problem will be in finding a Motherboard that outputs 5K@120hz.

You will need to look at the Motherboard's Specs for DP and HDMI Maximum Resolutions and Frequencies to determine if it will output 5K@120hz.

Found this tech site that reviews 6 best motherboards for the 8700G processor: https://www.xda-developers.com/best-motherboards-for-amd-ryzen-7-8700g/

These three are the best with the highest output for DP and HDMI on the motherboard from the link above: https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-x670e-e-gaming-wifi-model/spec/

Graphics

1 x DisplayPort**
1 x HDMI® port***
**Supports max. 8K@60Hz as specified in DisplayPort 1.4.
***Supports 4K@60Hz as specified in HDMI 2.1.

  • Graphics
Integrated AMD RDNA™ graphics (Actual support may vary by CPU)
    - 1 x HDMI 2.1 TMDS/FRL 8G Compatible, supports HDR, HDCP 2.3 and max. resolution up to 4K 120Hz
    - 2 x USB4, support HDCP 2.3 and max. resolution up to 8K 60Hz*

*Only the CPU's embedded graphics can be displayed through USB4 ports. If you want to display to a Type-C monitor, please use AM5 Ryzen™ 7000 processors with embedded graphics.

  • Onboard Graphics
    Integrated Graphics Processor:
    1. 1 x USB Type-C® port, supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2 and DisplayPort video outputs and a maximum resolution of 3840x2160@144 Hz
      * Support for drawing tablets and 20V@3A of power delivery.
      * Support for DisplayPort 1.4 version.
    2. 1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096x2160@60 Hz
      * Support for HDMI 2.1 version and HDCP 2.3.
** Support native HDMI 2.1 TMDS compatible ports.
(Graphics specifications may vary depending on CPU or graphics card support.)

NOTE: The higher the Resolutions normally involves lower frequencies to keep within the Motherboard's maximum Resolution and hz.

Basically it all depends on the DP and HDMI Port Versions and motherboard's Maximum Resolution bandwidth output that will determine if your can run your monitor at your stated Resolution and Hz or not.

why shouldn't the cpu do it?
If it's just a matter of pure image reproduction, yes.

AMD Ryzen™ 7 8700G | AMD

an a620 should be able to handle 4k.
