5950x Cache Hierarchy Error

*** Symptoms ***

Windows 11 Home PC started crashing at random times: at login screen, at desktop (nothing loaded), in steam UI, and gaming

Temperature @ 99% load with AIO is 29 (according to the AIO display itself) and AMD's software says 51. Either way - supposedly 90C is fine.

*** Error ***

Event 18, WHEA-Logger

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 0

*** Working Fix ***

Reset to defaults. Disable Core Performance Boost & Precision Boost Overdrive

Now running rock solid, but performance is capped to 3.37 GHz instead of 4.9 which is entirely unacceptable.

*** What I tried that did not work ***

I tried different:

* Newest motherboard and GPU Drivers / Samsung Magician Updates / Windows Updates / BIOS updates

* GPU (570GTX)
* RAM

  ** Reducing from 64 to 32GB (currently running with 32)

  ** slots 1 and 3 then slots 2 and 4

  ** tried different speeds (XAMP, default, 1600)

* Tried different motherboard (MSI X470 GAMING PLUS or Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC) with latest BIOS'
* Tried different PSU (EVGA 1200W)

*** System Specs ***

* Ryzen 5950x
* MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI (BIOS: latest non-beta)
* Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model CMK32GX4M2L3200C16
* SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 7900 XTX
* NZXT Kraken 280 280mm AIO CPU Liquid Cooler
* CORSAIR - RMx Series RM1000x 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
* CORSAIR XTM70 thermal paste
* CORSAIR iCUE 4000D RGB AIRFLOW Black Mid-Tower Case

* Disks: Samsung 980 PRO, 970 EVO, and 870 QVO

I can provide any other details. TIA.

Big Boss

trieder, AMD temperatures reported are correct. Most others are not.

I suggest you contact AMD about an RMA. Enjoy, John.
