5600X undervolt

Full summer heat is almost here. Right now my 5600X can go to 85C. I don't need 85C exhaust hot air into my already hot room. VDDCR CPU value in HWinfo is max 1.428V.

Can you tell me what settings to change and what values to aim for undervolt so I can lower CPU temperature? Offset voltage?

Have you tried curve optimizer? Here is how to on BIOS

https://youtube.com/shorts/0iyja9yQ-tM?feature=share

You also have off set undervolt but for ryzen 5000 curve optimizer will also bump performance.

You can also do it on Ryzen Master if you like the friendly way.

Hi, I will try this today or tomorrow than I will post result here.

I tested today in Fire Strike Extreme (1440p resolution test) - stress test option - 20 runs I think. Room temperature was 30C.

Third colums in pictures represents max value.

- CURVE OPTIMIZER - I done it following instructions from some longer video

BIOS -> Advanced -> AMD Overclocking -> Precision boos overdrive - > Advanced

       - > PBO limits -> Motherboard

       - > Curve optimizer -> Negative -15

VDDCR CPU voltage - from Auto to offset mode

- Why does Curve optimizer settings gives even more heat?

- Is offset voltage undervolt best way to go? I can go there even lower than -0.1V

Edit: I forgot to take screenshot of CPU clock values

Curve Optimizer also increases performance.

You can have both, I have. Or add a thermal limit in BIOS, that way it won't get over that temperature.

If you do both, too much negative offset will make the system unstable. You need to find the sweet spot.

Have you considered upgrading the cooler?

- Curve Optimizer also increases performance.

And that the problem. I don't want performance increase. Can I disable performance increase option in Curve optimizer?

You need to find the sweet spot.

Can you give me some info about how far can I go down with offset voltage. Was my -0.1V offset too low?

- Have you considered upgrading the cooler?

I don't use stock cooler. I have CoolerMaster TPC 600 + Asus XF 120mm fan.

How long do I need to test it to verify stability? I have OCCT, 3dMark, Cinebench and Asus real bench.

Doesn't work that way, if you don't want a performance bump, don't consider Curve Optimizer

Depends on silicon lottery, some can do -0,15v, I think you can go -0,125v

In my very humble opinion, that is a little bump over the Prism 92mm fan down firing fan, try adding another 120mm fan for a push/pull config if its possible

I would simply do a 30min run of OCCT and 3DMARK then use it daily, its not really an Overclock and the chances are... it will crash at idle not at load.

What do you think of this one:

Offset voltage - 0.168V

Fire strike extreme - Third column is max value

I also done test in OCCT (large, normal, variable) - 30 minutes - 0 errors

I can test this tomorrow in Asus real bench - 8 hours.

offset -0.168_3.PNGoffset -0.168_2.PNGoffset -0.168_1.PNG

offset -0.168_4.PNG

I must say, its looking pretty good.

CPU die from 83 to 75, that's a good shaving!

Congrats!

Right now I am at Offset -0.175V

Tested at: Fire Strike Extreme 20 runs, OCCT (large, normal, variable) 30mn, Asus real bench 7 hours - 0 Errors

Picture from Firestrike Extreme

offset -0.175V firestrike extreme_3.PNGoffset -0.175V firestrike extreme_1.PNGoffset -0.175V firestrike extreme_2.PNGoffset -0.175V firestrike extreme_4.PNG

You said I can go to -0,15v but this is better than this. Should I go lower? Keep in mind room temperature is over 30C, it is very hooot here.

I posted -0,15v because thats the average maximum, not exactly a hard limit. I couldnt go that far with a 2700X so im not sure how it handles.

Keep testing till you happy. Undervolting doesnt harm CPU, its not like overvolting that can eventually kill it.

I noticed this:

- Offset -0.187V:

cpuz 0.187V.PNG

- Default:

With offset undervolt my perfomance starts to drop. Why?

That means that in all my stress test I couldn't get an error because CPU was lowering clocks?

Well, it makes some sense, if it doesn't have the required voltage to keep the clocks....
On my previous 2700X it wouldn't lower the clocks, it would crash/reboot instead.

Each silicon acts different, I've seen people getting less performance on curve optimizer when it should not be that way.

I would try to find a balance between curve optimizer and offset undervolt. That's how I do on my 7950X.

I thought I won silicon lottery until I did some benchmark test:) Almost 20h of stress test without crashing lol

If I decide to use curve optimizer with Offset -0.187V, should I start with plus curve optimizer?

Any advice with that values should I start?
