Wrong display resolution / generic non-pnp monitor on 2nd monitor

History: I used these monitors for years with my previous machine. I just built this one and was hoping to get a little more out of them while I continue to upgrade. 

IssueThere is only the 640x480 (60 Hz) resolution available for my 2nd display. Main display works fine. Setting anything else like GPU scaling or a custom resolution results in a brief flicker and a return to 640x480. The offending monitor is listed as Generic Non-PnP monitor while the working one is Generic PnP Monitor. This is a fresh but up-to-date installation of windows. 

System:

MSI x570 Tomahawk WiFi

Ryzen 9 5900X

Sapphire Nitro+ 6800 XT

Win 10 Pro 64bit, OS Build 19042.685

32 gb DDR4

Both displays are Acer S231HL. HDMI at the back of the monitor, passive DP adapters at the card. 

 

Troubleshooting:

Different HDMI cables

Different DPI ports

Installing the Generic PnP Drivers over the Non-PnP via Device Manager (Nothing changes)

Reinstalling Radeon Drivers & Software

Turning on/Adjusting GPU Scaling

Setting a custom resolution

Unplugging the monitor from the PC and from power and leaving it for 5 minutes (Overnight in this case)

sfc /scannow (All good)

Win+Ctrl+Shift+B 

All the restarts you can shake a stick at

When I Win + P and switch to duplicate, the main monitor goes down to 640x480

 

Edit: The AMD Display settings lists it as "DDC Display - DVI-D"

hehe - yes that would fix it ;)

would have been my next step - but you were faster

yet it is strange why that happens

just a wild guess here

1. download CRU
2. delete the non-pnp generic monitor listing in CRU and press ok and close CRU after that
3. restart your PC
4. see if it works

Unfortunately, that did not work. Started up with the same resolution and the entry was re-created in CRU.

mh, maybe your Monitor still needs an Analog-Signal over DVI-I // yet DVI-I isnt supported since some years...

you can try to use an active DVI-Adapter

ps i have to google your Display again.
pps was the not-working monitor bought used? (than maybe the firmware was flashed incorrecly - and yes you can flash a different firmware for the panel)

I bought them all together.

I did Just copy all the info from the working monitor and put them on the entry for Generic Non-PNP with CRU and it seems to be working? Not sure if that's a desired way to fix it...?
