I have recently purchased and installed a Radeon W6600 in my HP Z6 G4 workstation. However, doing so causes the UEFI to throw a “CPU2 Fan Not Detected” error and rev all system fans to their maximum speed.
Turning the system off and removing the W6600 immediately resolves this error; adding it back triggers the error again.
I replaced the W6600 with a spare RTX 4000 graphics card. This did not trigger the error, and the system behaved as expected.
I then tried a number of troubleshooting steps with no success. First, I removed all other PCIe devices from the system. Next, I tried moving the W6600 to each of the six other slots in the system. I tried replacing the CPU fan with a backup, to make sure it wasn’t in fact an issue with the fan. Finally, I removed all Optane DCPMM modules from the system.
Needless to say, none of this resolved the issue. The card is available for purchase direct from HP which suggests to me it is compatible with this system.
Is there a firmware update for the card? Is AMD aware of this issue?
