This TV is true 10bit, I have an amazon basics cable that is rated for 18Gbs  (link below) therefore think I should be able to have 1440p 120hz with 10bit 4:2:2 or 1440p 60hz 10bit 4:4:4. According to Wikipedia there is enough bandwidth for either of those options.

Unfortunately all I seem to be able to achieve is either 1440p 120hz 8bit 4:4:4 (adrenaline does not give me any other options) or 1440p 60Hz 10bit 4:2:2 (adrenaline does allow me to change to RGB 4:4:4 but then it drops the colour depth to 8bit.)

Is this a cable issue or something else or am I misunderstanding the limitations.

I see there is (or was) various similar issues but not quite the same. In most cases people are describing behaviour where they select 10bit but it flicks back to 8bit and I think possibly the issues are concerning display port as opposed to HDMI.

Windows 10 RGB444 4K 60hz 10bits mode issue 

There are two outcomes from that thread

One person is saying the Custom Resolution Utility indicates your pixel clock is 594Mhz then you will have problems. Is there anyone that can clarify or confirm this statement. Do certain TVs have a different value.

Other people are saying the issue was resolved in adrenaline 19.Q2. Has the issue returned in the 2020 series or was it only fixed for display port connections.

I too am having this issue with my Samsung QA55Q7FNA TV. I am able to select 4:2:2 10 bit in 4K/60hz but am unable to select 10 bit 4:2:2 in 1440p 120hz. I am only able to select 8 bit 4:4:4 RGB in 1440p 120hz mode.

I am using a 5700XT Gaming X from MSI and a proper 18Gbps HDMI cbale.

This is strange as 10 bit 4:2:2 in 1440p 120hz uses less bandwidth than 4K 10 bit.

nobsterthelobster‌ I have read through Windows 10 RGB444 4K 60hz 10bits mode issue  but was unable to find anything conclusive regarding 1440p HDR @ 120hz. They were mainly speaking of 10/12bit 4K HDR which is not an issue for me. Did you find any more information?

I was able to "trick" my TV into playing 1440p 120hz 10 bit by selecting HDR in The Division 2 and alt+tab a few times. It eventually comes right, but in AMD drivers it is impossible to select it.

Please AMD can you address this.

Unfortunately I never got a resolution and I don't hold out any hope of AMD fixing this.

I will likely jump back to team green for my next card. This is not just based on this issue which I guess is relatively minor but I've had a number of driver related problems that I've never experienced with Nvidia.

AMD appear to offer great value in hardware vs Nividia but then you realise their software is not nearly as robust.

I have the exact same TV and same GPU. I will see what their response is regarding this issue.

I do not see why AMD would not fix this and am keeping my hopes up. It does work, but it requires the game to override the display settings. It could even be a Windows 10 HDR problem.

The same problem here. RX580 and Samsung TV with freesync. 1440p is the best for gaming because of wide freesync range (20-120 hz). However HDR is weak because with 8 bit colors, I reach only 800 nits peak brightness. With 10 bit colors (which I can choose in 4K or 1080p120Hz), the peak brightness is 900 nits.

AMD, let me select 10 bit 4:2:2 1440p120 Hz!
