Space Marines 2 4K texture pack, Help with MicroStutter!

 Hey all....

I got an all AMD new system, I wanted to try the 4K textures pack for Space Marines 2 and it fills up Vram and then goes to micro stuttering ( even though it's maintaining a good fps ).

I know if I turn down texture settings from ultra to high that helps but also removes them, while it's fast enough to run it just slowly eases up to 20GB of Vram and then here it comes.......

When it does this is it stepping out to CPU or Memory bus to off load is there for instance memory, ( size or speed that will help )?

I'm running DDR5 6000 CL 30 expo and amd enhanced on, I've been out this game a decade so I don't even know the programs people use these days I stress tested with Prime 95 for instance. I ran a generic one and it said I had 72k memory bandwidth is that pretty good? What's a good software for to test if memory is running as set in bios?

 Here is my system.

Gigabyte 870e Elite Wifi 7 latest bios F4D...

AMD Ryzen 9700x ( 7800X3Ds were sold out ), it's set to a TDP closer to 105watts with a thermal protection at 85, undervolted. Decent Air Cooler ( it says 60-72c in game ).

 DDR5 6000 expo 1, CL 30, amd on...2x16

This MB has a PCIe 5.0 first slot so I have a latest gen NVME system drive in it...

 Corsair 850watt power supply...

A very good working dual chamber 6 fan case ( 3 in bottom directly to GPU ).

7800XT Radeon Graphics card usually runs around 2700ish in game....

Aside from sending it back and getting beaten by my wife there is only one card with more Vram which is a 7800XTX? Is this texture pack truly only usable on that ONE card?

If I went to DDR5 6400 2x32 would that reduce the micro stutter? The card can brute force the game if I lower it to 1440p in game with Adrenaline active and it up res to 4K it actually runs faster but "seems" to reach vram limits even quicker...

My TV panel is a 4K 120hz native TV, it can do 240hz at 1440p, had a dedicated game mode with AMD free sync Pro which IS active, they are communicating....

Is there a combo of sync or features that will help micro stutter even if it's less fps overall?

Sorry I tried to work thru it on my own but there is a LOT of terminology to learn.....

Thanks

Hi brother sadlz there is no fix i got R7 5800x3D and rx 7900gre and i usuallz run game at ultra setting 1440p native fsr on sherpen on 100% and got around 75 to 94 fps very good 1% lows but i can telll that i have bottleneck in this case it gonna be cpu one i hoped that this is not gonna be issue but it is even 7800x3D is bottle neck in 1440p for gpus like 7900xtx or 4090 funny enough maximum fps was similar with those mutch stronger gpus. Also i tryed the 4K texture pack but i got around 13 to 18 fps less which is not that bad but quite bad 1% lows also u use AFMF2 to smooth things out and it work like charm i can even play 4k locked 60fps and game gonna run well but not with texture pack that one is extremly demanding, i hope we gonna have that fsr 3.1 plus frame gen so we can ply with this perfect looking texture pack but othervise just dont even try that thing its not worf it just not now **bleep** it was this year when i update to 5800x3D and rx 7900gre and i feels like my hardware is outdated already **bleep**.

At this pooint you can try that afmf2 if you have freezes if that dont help make sure y run driver version 24.10.1.

I also sometimes run game at 4k rez just upscaled and i lock 60fps and its work very well untill it doesnt well untill first ffull wave of tyranids come and my fps drop to the 40s just there is nothing we can do RN, my game dont have problems with stutter but i can sometimes as well feels that weird 1% lows but even more weird is that my most low fps was arour 69fps but it feels mutch more less than that. Also this texture pack utilizate usually my whole gpu at 1440p which is fine but frame time is weird and also have that snappy laggy feel even after the game showing me 80 plus fps i dont belive it.  As i said before most of us have this issue like i got 16gb and i tought it will be enough even to the future well maybe i should buy insted XTX at this point cuz the 16gb of VRAm is clearly not enough but bigger problem in this game is CPU game runs extremly heavy and even in normal game without texture pack game run actually good but game in the same time dont utilizated my gpu to max 100% usually sits somewhere batween 85 and 94 % percent and cpu melting in 65 to 80% of usage thx god i got quite good air cooler to actually cool down to 68C max. So far o dont find any new way to fix this and i will not until we not gonna have that frame gen and fsr 3.1 nothing of this will be fixed also 4k textures should not eat all my 16gb of VRAM plus melt my cpu in same time maybe a bit more optimization will be nice to let us run texture pack cuz game run good but someties there are some drops but game looks fenomenal with that texture pack well but i guess its not for everyone and when even 7800x3D is bottleneck in this game well there is no any other cpu that can handle our problem at least not now maybe in future maybe the will fix it maybe.

Sorry i know this wasnt helpfull but et least i try to maybe explayn how is it with this pack for me.

One more thing even rtx 4090 and r7800x3D have also small stuterres  here and there soo there is answer on your question no more expensive hardware dont fix this issue just dont use this texture pack at least for now until we dont have fsr 3 frame gen maybe than it will be better but i dough that but maybe dev will fix this who knows.

Ok,

So here is the update obviously the 7800XT wasn't cutting it, I bought an AsRock 7800 XTX ( 24gb of vram ) and it would fill that up to 22-23.5 gb micro stuttering, but that card was always a bit flakey and was obviously an open box....I finally caved to mess with replacing it with another just like it..

The new card runs hot, it's Hotspot got to 95-97 playing last night in a well ventilated open dual chamber case ( I even added 2 more fans so 3 pull fresh air from bottom directly to GPU and 2 out the top pulling the heat up and out, it's still positive pressure aka more bringing air in than out), however what it doesn't do is stutter....so something was wrong...

I DID use the AMD utility AND the DDU to do multiple driver removals in safe mode and back on previous cards, I did same thing then installed Octobers drivers...fired up SM2 ultra textures ultra everything like it was set and sure enough straight up to 22+ gb of vram however and i mean with my trying to run into new areas on lethal so maximum enemies, stuttering 99% gone....almost never and just slight so far...

Same settings I used on other 7800 xtx

3120x1800 upres to 4k

Frame generation on quality...

Amd sync ( my TV as amd free sync )

Ultra everything maxed looking stellar 99% frames averaging well over 100....just running a mint but you can tell it's taking everything...the cpu will be up at 100% at times and gpu is 99% constant...

Gpu core is only getting to 63-65 but the hot spot is mid 90s I read that delta isn't good?

Still testing if it changes I'll let ya know I'll run it true 4k later today and see but these same settings stuttered like crazy especially op 7 on pve and it's smooth and around 140s 99%

If i run at TAA wirh 4K ultra setting its fine bit im getting on my 7900gre around 65fps not ideal but if i turn on FSR native game is like 70plus fps but if i drop it to fsr quality again same thing gpu utilization not full only around 80 to 96% not ideal but this feels really like CPU bound we need wait for offical fix from devs if anything like this even ever come also  same things happend before with Helldivers also that have runs like ass and was extremly cpu bound now its actually better after fiew updates but still not the best also new monster hunter run extrenly poorly huge cpu bound if there is on server multiple people and servers should hold up to 100 people **bleep** not ok. Also there is one maybe option go on steam page and download free 4K texture pack and anble it in SM2 maybe that will squize your GPU at 100% i will try that as well and we will see.

OK i just ry again in 1440p ultra with 4K textures and yes its working better than last time but if i play campain everything is great all textures looks good everything is amazing also FPS are around 80 to 115 and gpu utilization is around 99% als  the time the moment i switch from campain to misions GPU is no longer utilized preperly no more, like yes there is the way just put game at in game TAA and not FSR or DLSS and your gpu will be utilized to 93 to 99% most of the time not ideal but better than before and if y dont have enough fps turn on AFMF2.

Just a little update after some time.....

Firstly that delta did level out from over 30 to generally around 18-25 ( maybe the phase change as a bubble, the other card did same thing ).

I've tried 2 7900xtx cards at this point kept the 2nd one which does seem to give me less trouble....

I hear you but I been playing with an overlay and your right I up res just to FORCE more GPU to be used ( i would think that would force more CPU but what it seems like it does is engage the gpu and make it run at least in the 90%+).

I have a 9700x, ive updated the bios and made sure the ddr5 IS running a true ExpO CL 30 6000 bandwidth and it is, it's fairly near the top on those bench marks.....75k on bandwidth...

I also over clocked the cpu by a 100 it has no problem completing benchmarks at a full 5600 mhz it's not an 9800X3D but it has more chache than most at 40, i also seen recent bench vs 9800x3d and it played above a 7800x3d in several test...

Depending on which driver is loaded the cpu will use into the 90% like the opening scene on OP 7 with the hydra whatever i glance and it's running 5000+ mhz....same in the scene where that creature stomps over you between sections of that level.....

Also ( fornite wants me to run 10.8 but that driver while solid doesn't even recognize SM2 started ), 10.9 has the worst stuttering in SM2 of any i tried...

Guys, and yes I will upgrade to an X3D CPU when they get reasonable again, but in the last week I've seen my exact mother board ( based on X870e ) benchmarked and it placed well the fastest one under $500 in fact ( surprised me ), but I cant play anything maxed without the gimmicks and only helldivers 2 even with the gimmicks at a smooth 4K 60+ just cant, without micro stuttering, my ram is fast my drives are fast my cpu places near the top, my mb places near the top....

SM2 is unplayable with the 4k textures using the September launch driver .9 however .10 aka October? Yea it helped a LOT, and that's why I feel there is something wrong with the DRIVER the micro stuttering is significantly reduced in the latest driver but it introduces new problems in other games....and it doesn't eliminate it, even using FSR 1440 to 4k it minimizes but doesn't eliminate it...I'm not saying the game doesn't have work to do but honestly every game I've tried has one problem or another with driver versions...fortnite even tells you on fire up this is an unreal 5 engine game and has problem with YOUR drivers revert them ( which i can't do and play space marines so no unreal 5 engine games at all i suppose )..

All so ALL 1440p does ( goes its got the power for 4k brute force ) is lengthen the time until the 24gb of vram fills up but it will eventually get to 22gb+ and all the problems get worse....

It's a sad state cause basically the top AMD card ( even clocked ) on a quick clocked entire system is simply a 1440p setup...I don't say this lightly or to sow angst, I wish I had spent all I could afford and got a 4070 ti super or stretched and got a 4080 ( 4090 is simply not in my budget), every single game i try and every single day i play is a roll of dice and something has a problem with this card and even undervolted forcing ( and living with ) the fan to max it runs hot with a wide delta between gpu and Hotspot......

I've simply accepted it's a 1440p rig in which case I should of got a 7900gre as this card does nothing for playing 4k and the 24gb if vram seems to not be enough for the future like I thought as the future is HERE with sm2....

Don't forget AMD is on the LOAD screen for SM2, so imho AMD and it's drivers should be optimized for IT, also AMD gives the game away with the card but doesn't have a stable stutter free driver for it? ( and the driver matters try September release ajd October back to back to back....October is better but doesn't solve it it's way better for sm2 in fact )...how? How do you co promote and have your name on a game that your own card within its recommended card system doesn't work well with your release drivers? How does that happen and why is it ok?

Im super frustrated i paid $1000 just to run 1440p and stutter anyway, as you can tell....I may attempt another return get a 4070 ti Super and let time sort this out ( I reached out to a guy running it just fine on that zero micro stuttering at 4k, i didn't want to reward nvidia for price gouging but it just has less problems), to be clear it runs all the frame rate you need for 4k but micro stutters period....their co sponsored game isn't even using FSR3 think about that!!! But it is using the newer DLSS which i presume is why the 4070 ti Super runs it even with just 16gb of vram ...

Frustrated and sad I generally pull for the underdog but I can't imagine how a game came to market co promoted with AMD and didn't haven a polished driver for it ready to go....really think about that.....that tells a bigger story than at first thought....

Oh one more thing whatever you do, don't enable Radeon Chill in SM2 THAT will increase stuttering by a factor of 3, however it works fine in HD2 ( even in 4k all ultra settings, the frame rate isn't super high but it's above 90 and i don't feel the 99% lows if they dip of coarse no micro stuttering after load in ect or so minimal I can't detect it to look ajd see I don't care about a log it's does it take me OUT immersion or not, the MS gauge just verifies yeap I'm feeling it and it is indeed doing it )...card likes it though really helps temps...
