RX7900 xtx boost clock automatically boosting past card specifications

I have a xfx merc 310 rx7900 xtx. Until recently I left the amd adrenalin drivers at their defaults, and would encounter seemingly random game crashes. In searching for the reason why I get random crashes, I've turned RAM xmp off, reinstalled windows, tried many things off the web, etc.. Still would get frozen action, a black screen, then dumped back to the desktop or a hard reboot.

The specs page for this card says it will boost up to 2615 XFX SPEEDSTER MERC 310 AMD Radeon™ RX 7900 XTX Black Edition (xfxforce.com)

Yet I've caught it hitting 2800+.

I've now set the slider down to 2300, and it still will hit over 2615 from time to time but not to ridiculous amounts.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

I've also noticed that windows 11 auto HDR will cause screen flashing and flickering

The problem with the clock spikes will be solved with the new driver 24.2.1. However the crashes remain. You can test the new beta driver.

Use the 23.12.1 drivers if you want to get rid of the crashes.

Used DDU, installed the new beta 24.2.1 drivers, and on the default it clocks me up  to 2749 mhz. When I check what the 100% default is, it thinks it is 2965 Mhz.

On the bright side, when I switch it to custom and cap it, it looks like it is behaving. I'd put my money on this being a source of a lot of unexplained crashes.
